Yes you can pay less for a decent harp, like the Hohner Big River or the Suzuki Folkmaster and you can pay more for finer harps, like the Manji or a Seydel, but you won't find a comparable pro level harp for the price or a Special 20. I'd be happy if all my harps were Special 20s and I have all the harps I mentioned above as well as a Bushman Soul's Voice. If you're just getting started just shell out the money and get one. You'll never regret it.

Hate to write about this problem, but its what happened: This was My favorite harmonica-- (The Spec 20)-- until I bought 2 new ones, an E & G at Guitar Center & they were both defective-out of tune. Hohner replaced the E but refused to fix the other one saying I had taken it apart. This G harp was to be a back up as my 3 year old G was getting weak. It was a few days out of warranty but they said that was not the problem. It was brand new--just taken out of the box---I had played it about 5 minutes & did NOT take it apart. The harmonica they returned appears NOT to be the one I sent in as it looks old, worn, & scratched. Probably will NOT buy another Hohner even though I "did" like the playability and sound, I now question the dependability, & Customer service. I don't know what happened with this ordeal but it was NOT something I did to this defective harmonica. Real sad situation, as I "only" have about 70 Hohner harmonicas of all types, (I switch around when playing.) Several are out of tune but I never returned them--they are basically junk now)

Comments about Hohner Progressive Series 560 Special 20 Harmonica:

I've been playing Hohners exclusively for about 5 years - Marine Band Special 20's, Pro Harp MS's, Blues Harp MS's - and have always been happy with them. I recently bought a Special 20 ProgressivE, and it'll be the last Hohner harp I ever buy. Cheap bolts/nuts securing the cover plates, and fully 6 notes wouldn't play at all out of the box. When I disassembled it, the reed slots were ragged and the edges were not straight, several of the reeds had deep scratches across them about 1/3 up from the rivets (how long do you suppose they'll last?), and the #10 draw reed had the last 1.5mm bent upwards at about a 30° angle. Because I needed the harp to lay down a final track on a recording, I spent two hours repairing, adjusting, and tuning. This is unacceptable. From here on out, my money for new harps will go to Lee Oskar or Seydel.

Comments about Hohner Progressive Series 560 Special 20 Harmonica:

The Special 20 is the easiest playing harmonica made. If you are a beginner and want to learn to bend, this is the harp. Almost all of the pros I know have Special 20s at their disposal. Plus this harmonica sounds great! When I mic mine with the old Shure 520, you get that Chicago blues sound everyone wants. I have used these for years and continue to buy them because they have remained consistent. If you take care of them they last for years.

Comments about Hohner Progressive Series 560 Special 20 Harmonica:

A Hohner Special 20... If you play harmonic then you know this is one of the industry standards used for tone, ease of play-ability, and quality. I purchased this Hohner Progressive Series 560 Special 20 Harmonica in the key of Eb to continue my goal to get all of the keys available for the Special 20. There are (13) keys available and this is the 8th one I have purchased toward the (13). I rate my playing ability as just "OK". So I described myself as a "novice" versus "experienced" because I do not play these live. I play these harmonica's as a background accompaniment for the music I record. They sound great. Enjoy!
