The sound

By shobing

Comments about Hohner HM-36 Professional 36 Melodica:

This melodica is constructed very well and the keys are a little larger and respond better than some of the less expensive models. But I much prefer the sound of the lesser models because when you play them there is a feeling of having to coax the overtones out of the instrument. This more expensive instrument does not have as much of an expressive range.

Hohner Melodica Pro 36

By Justin Belew

from Columbus, GA

Comments about Hohner HM-36 Professional 36 Melodica:

The instrument sounds better than I eexpected it to. It is very responsive and plays well. Several of the notes on the instrument are slightly out of tune to my taste, but blends well in rustic settings.

Decent, but with no real competition.

Comments about Hohner HM-36 Professional 36 Melodica:

I play this instrument professionally these days. It is very portable, I had to buy a few of them because they do not stay in tune if you play the instrument regularly. I live in NYC and none of the studio techs or repair shops will touch it. It has to be sent to Hohner for repair (the reeds do break), and tuning (about every 2 months). Hohner's service has not been the greatest in my experience, the last melodica sent back to me was still out of tune. A terrible hassle to deal with, but it is the highest performing instrument of its class. I do wish a higher quality melodica was available. If you're buying one, get the German make, the tone and facility are remarkably superior; still high maintainance tho.

Comments about Hohner HM-36 Professional 36 Melodica:

This instrument has a killer tone to it and i have never been happier about it. Every where i go with the melodica people always stop me and ask where they can get one to!

Sweet Sweet Sound

By Ernest Gregoire

from Florida

Comments about Hohner HM-36 Professional 36 Melodica:

I have been playing clarinet for 6 years. I just bought a Melodica recently and fell in love with its sweet sweet sound. Now I need to work on my piano fingering for the Melodica. Its coming along but frustrating, I can play almost any song I want to on the clarinet but can't do the same on the keyboard yet. I like the abiltiy to play chords on the Melodica too. Can't do that on the clarninet :) Give me some time, and I'll be playing it like my clarinet. Its great to have a keyboard to figure memorize blues scales, and chords. These are the building blocks for improvisation on the clarinet. I travel a lot and its nice to play it softly at night. I don't disturb anyone this way, but can get real mellow with the blues. Great cross over instrument. A real keeper.

Portable lead instrument

By harper-1lw24

Comments about Hohner HM-36 Professional 36 Melodica:

This is a very high quality melodica with Hohner workmanship. The middle register is particularly pleasing. Higher notes can be piercing and lower notes somewhat hard to get out because they take more air. I am an accordionist and find this instrument very easily playable and lovely for melodies. It sounds like a small accordion, treble side. Chords take too much air to be practical, except occasionally. Staccato and detached notes can be accomplished by breath or tonguing. I recommend purchasing a bent mouthpiece rather than the mouthpiece supplied.

Phenomenal Instrument!!!

Comments about Hohner HM-36 Professional 36 Melodica:

I don't have anything to stack up this melodica up against so that is why the 9's in the ratings. But I do love my melodica...Just think - if I lost elec. power and all material possessions (expensive toys) but still had melodica, I'd be a (relatively) happy camper because I have melody and harmony (still) at my fingertips.
