Overview

The Hohner Essential Mini Jumbo guitar is built using a revolutionary technique Hohner calls Frequency Matching. Hohner's technicians use a form of tap tuning to determine the resonant frequencies of the woods and then match the solid Sitka spruce top with similarly resonant mahogany backs. Combining this process with a micro thin finish produces a powerful, rich singing tone that is reproduced brilliantly through the Fishman Ion Preamp with built-in chromatic tuner.

All Hohner Essential guitars go through a 12-point inspection process at Hohner's US facility to make sure every guitar is set up to sound and play great.

Amazing Guitar

By Stu Carpenter

Comments about Hohner Essential Plus Mini Jumbo Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

The intonation is what I've always hoped for in a guitar. The tone DRIPS of the perfect blend of soul and twang. The tone is rich and "voicey" while staying as warm as a comfortable pair of jeans. I grab it before my Martin or my Taylor...Get one...you won't be sorry you added it to your collection!

Comments about Hohner Essential Plus Mini Jumbo Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I just bought this guitar based on the intonation system that it boasts about and the tap tuning that supposedly produces a better sounding guitar. This guitar is not a bad guitar, however it is not for me. As you will see, I mainly do not like it because of body size, so the Dreadnaught model may have been more like what I want, but I really like the Jumbo style models because they are more curvy. Flaws: The quality of build on this guitar is actually better than your average $200-$300 guitar. There was one place however where the soundboard did not match the side right and looks slightly funny. Not a dealbreaker for sure, but still worth mentioning. The Earvana No Variance Intonation: Perfect. I wish more guitars would come with this or Washburn's Buzz Feiten systems, although an improvement would be rounded corners on the nut as this can bite your fingers when playing close to the nut. The problem with this system is that it is on a guitar that has poor quality tuners. If you see that they advertise as Grovers, they are NOT. Body Size: I have a Yamaha guitar I've played religiously for 5 or 6 years that is a "mini jumbo" so I thought it would be comparable in size. My Yamaha is 40 inches long while the Hohner Mini Jumbo is about 3 inches shorter than it. It looks and feels like a 3/4ths sized guitar. The body is about an inch or two short on all sides when compared to a normal mini jumbo. Also, this guitar will not fit in a normal hard shell case. Tone and Playability: The action on this guitar is great. No buzzing, low enough, and the frets look nice. Hohner advertises this guitar as having great tone because of the tap tuning, however I am disappointed because this has the "tinny" (extra) small bodied guitar sound. For comparison, I had an Ibanez Talman (very small bodied) that I felt had more volume and tone than this Hohner.

My first guitar.

Comments about Hohner Essential Plus Mini Jumbo Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I've owned this instrument for a couple months and it's lived up to every expectation I set before buying a first guitar. It's actually been in one or two little accidents and hasn't even gotten a scratch. The sound is so smooth and warm for such a small instrument, but still not too loud and bright, and the built-in tuner is incredibly useful. I can't think of any complaints I have. Yes, the look is plain but that doesn't take away from its playing abilities.
