Overview

The Hohner Special Case consists of 5 Special 20 harmonicas in the most popular keys: G, A, C, D, and E. To keep the harps safe while you travel, these Hohner Special harmonicas come in a free padded case with a plush black interior that can hold a total of 7 harps.

Hohner Special 20 harmonicas are known for their awesome response, superior bendability, and the sweetest tone ever. This harp is the first choice for those learning to play harmonica. The Hohner Special 20's airtight design makes it the most recommended go-to harp for harmonica players of any style, including blues, country, folk, or rock. The harmonica's plastic comb doesn't absorb moisture, making it last longer.

The Hohner Special 20 is the harp of choice of harmonica virtuoso John Popper of Blues Traveler, and it's the one played by Bob Dylan on his 2007-2008 tour.

The harp case also has a hook-and-loop fastener as well as a zipper to keep your Honer Special harmonicas securely in place.

The Hohner SP20 is the best harp I have tried so far. I have a Bushman Delta Frost and an MS Bluesmaster. Both of these are good harps as well, but the special 20 plays easier than the others I have. These are great harps for beginners because of how easily they play, but they are also a professional quality instrument. That is one of the greatest things about them is that no matter how long you play you can use the SP20. Please keep in mind that there are certain holes on certain keys of harmonicas that will require a VERY exact mouth and tongue position (embouchure) to sound clearly. Please don't give up or blame the instrument. Just get some good instruction online or in person. We need more harmonica players.

Very disappointing. The Key of C harmonica had fully working reeds but all the others had at least one or two reeds that did not function. I have tried knocking and washing them to no avail. I have purchased many other different models of Honer harmonicas from Guitar Center and this seems to be the standard. Not sure if Honer is going downhill or maybe they just give Guitar Center the trash harmonicas but somewhere the quality is terrible and I don't know how they became known for such good quality products. I should have probably just thrown the money in the trash. Now I've spent a couple hundred dollars on Honer several harmonicas that don't work and I am thinking I will hang up the hobby.

Best Blues Harmonica

By Benjamin Carter

from Austin, TX

Comments about Hohner Case of Special 20s Harmonica 5-Pack:

I primarily play the blues, and I own quite a number of harmonicas, from Seydel 1847s to Suzuki Firebreaths and Lee Oskar melody makers, but the Special 20 is my go-to harp when I want to play the blues. It bends properly, has a deep, dirty blues tone and responds the way I want it to when I got the blues. If you are playing a different style with less bends and you want a harp that has a clean, crisp sound I recommend the Seydel 1847 or Suzuki Firebreath. If you want to play the blues, whether just learning or with a lifetime of experience, I recommend the Special 20.

Grrrrrreat!!!

By Abraham Rodriguez

Comments about Hohner Case of Special 20s Harmonica 5-Pack:

When I read that Annie Raines' student primarily opted for the Special 20 because of its durability I started to research. I found that most pros consider this to be a decent harp for the price. Also, it wasn't made in China. I was very pleased when I played these harps. I'm a beginner and had a bunch of harps that a good harp player friend gave. A Blues Harp MS and a couple of Pro-harps. The Special 20 is way better and the price from the Guitar Center was superb.

Quality, convenient harp package

By Matthew Beckerman

from Brooklyn, NY

Comments about Hohner Case of Special 20s Harmonica 5-Pack:

I don't know a lot about harmonicas, but I do like the tone of these and the plastic combs take away any worries about moisture, etc. It's convenient to receive 5 in a case, though ended up buying 2 more in 2 more keys. For this price maybe it should come with a nice instruction booklet though, since probably most people buying a full set are novices as opposed to someone replacing one in an existing set.

worth the money

Comments about Hohner Case of Special 20s Harmonica 5-Pack:

i was debating on purchasing the cheap bluesband kit or this one. I am very happy with the quality of these instruments. A perfect addition while playing my acoustic. I wouldn't think twice about getting these for the pure clean sound they produce.

Pretty Good

Comments about Hohner Case of Special 20s Harmonica 5-Pack:

My set came set up well, in contrast to the Golden Melody and Blue Midnight sets which required a lot of adjustments, The Special 20's have a pleasant protruding plastic mouth area, but the ABS plastic feels a little strange. In contrast, the Golden Melody brass plate extends way too much into the mouth, so it had to be filed down. The Blue Midnight feels good on the mouth but it only has 2 screws holding the reed plates which is why it leaks so much air. They are really difficult to adjust, as they require full assembly to test the gaping. I recommend the Special 20's because the Golden Melody and Blue Midnight harmonicas have too many problems, but they all can be made to play and sound good.

Great quality and performance kit for starters. I'd say that's the right level of product to start and the complete kit has the most common tones for blues, that is what I intent to play. I'm very satisfied with this product.

Comments about Hohner Case of Special 20s Harmonica 5-Pack:

I would have given these 5 stars except the G harmonica had a reed that was not working at all and some of the reeds did require some adjustment. Over all special 20's are a great harmonica and probably one of the easiest to play.

Comments about Hohner Case of Special 20s Harmonica 5-Pack:

Special 20s are great playing and great sounding harps. Way superior to regular Marine Bands. Warm tone, airtight. In tune out of the box. Generally every reed plays, and they hold up a long time. At the discount price I paid for a 5-pack (4 out of the 5 keys are very useful, one marginal), it's well worth buying.

The harps are used by my son, who found them easy to play. They are a big improvement over the lower quality harps he owned. He plays for personal enjoyment and they fit the need perfectly. The price was reasonable for the quality of the instruments.

Minor point: The ribbon that holds the case open is stupid. Its only function is to make sure the case falls shut when you let go of it. Carefully remove ribbon with seam ripper. Case should be able to lay flat. Make your own key labels for the front of each harp so they show when case is open.
