I recently purchased these harmonicas for my first set. I am amazed with the sound of these and so far they are very durable....they come with a grey case, lol and if you want red I suggest buying a red case, but it's just a case. The only one flaw is that the writing on the harp to tell what key it's in wares off easily and the key names for keys c and g wore off in the first two days. other than that these are great harps.

Yes, I am a beginner to harping, but have a minor in music and play several instruments.I an an intermediate level blues lead guitarist and wanted to expand my repertoire with the blues harp. I took a short class that came with a cheap, Chinese made C harp (Mojo Deluxe) and a small book. I bought this Hohner set so I could play in other keys. I trusted the Hohner name, but I am disappointed. The Mojo harp plays easier that the C harp in this kit, has more volume, and a richer tone. I learned to bend a couple of notes on the Mojo but couldn't do it on this one. After about an hour of playing, the white "C" on the harp was rubbed away and you can't tell what key it's in. So I experimented... I ordered a Fender Blues Deluxe ($9.95), also in C. There is absolutely no comparison between this Fender harp and these Hohners... it blows them away (pun intended), and the Mojo harp as well. Much greater tone, playability, and finish. Yes, it cost a little more, but very little--about $4 per harp. I am going back to GC tomorrow to order a set of these Fenders. I'll have an extraFender C harp, so I'll just throw that in my car.
NOTE: I don't blame GC for the lack of quality. I guess you get what you pay for.

Pros

  • Cheap $$ for a set of 7 keys

Cons

  • Flat Sound
  • Inconsistent
  • Low decibel output. Glad I don't have COPD.
  • Poor Quality
  • Reeds do not work on draws

Best Uses

  • Throw in trash/recycle bin

Comments about Hohner Blues Band 7-Piece Harmonica Set 1501:

All seven harps could not produce a note when drawn. Reeds are not properly assembled in harmonica. Many good harps need to be broken in prior to consistent use. I've been working these out for two weeks, and frankly I've picked up my daughter's blue and orange plastic harmonica and nailed it compared to these. Nice case. These dogs won't hunt.

Good product. I'm new to the harp world but know that Hohner isn't the best out there, but good for beginners like me. Good price for the 7 keys.

Comments about Hohner Blues Band 7-Piece Harmonica Set 1501:

I have an old beaten up Blues Band in C that plays as well as my Blues Harp (which is great). I bought this set hoping at least a few would be as good. They are unplayable. I would love to return them but I broke them in (gently) and figure it is too late. What garbage. It's a shame. I didn't expect them to be high end but they should be playable. The case is nice but my Blue Harp in A doesn't fit so that's not much of a consolation.

I got this set as a gift. I have never played a harmonica in my life. It was a great set to learn on. A harmonica has added a lot to my band Soon will be moving up to a set of Special 20's or Marine Band.

Lots of keys, but expect to have to work on them

Comments about Hohner Blues Band 7-Piece Harmonica Set 1501:

I read all the negative reviews and decided to take a gamble. After all, I just might get lucky and wind up with a good set. I picked these up today. Most of the reeds work fine, but each harp has a couple reeds that will need work (leaky or unresponsive). After disassembling a few of them, some of the reeds are bent at the tips as well. Unless you are willing to work on these harps, do not spend your money on them. I've had much better luck with Special 20s. I would consider myself an advanced beginner or perhaps even an intermediate player. If you've never played a harp before, please invest in something else. These will just frustrate you. If you're looking for a weekend project, and are willing to fiddle around with them, these might be worth it. I was expecting to have to gap about every 5th reed, and those expectations proved true.

Really Depends on What You Want

              By Rob

              from Spring, Tx

Comments about Hohner Blues Band 7-Piece Harmonica Set 1501:

If you want a set of good sounding harps out of the box then you are going to be disappointed. If you want to learn how to work on a harmonica without having to worry about messing up an expensive instrument then these fit the bill. If I had to describe these harps in one word it would be inconsistent. A few sound halfway decent, a few sound pretty rough and a few have serious problems. One had a few reeds that were too short for the reed plate. These are made in China and not up to the same standard as the Hohners made in Germany. If you really want to learn to play harmonica you would be better off by getting yourself one decent quality harp and learning on it instead of buying this set which you have to tape a dollar to in order to make them worth throwing away. With these you are going to be frustrated trying to get your notes, bends and overblows to sound right.
