Overview

As a principal choice for some of the world's leading harmonica musicians, the solo-tuned 270 Super Chromonica has a 3-octave chromatic range beginning at middle C. The chromatic harmonica's 48 reeds are fitted with special wind-saving valves. The precision-crafted Hohner pearwood comb is optimized for superior reed response over its complete range, from the mellow low octave to the bright and clear top octave.

Choose your desired key!

The Hohner 270 Super Chromonica is the answer to the sound you're seeking if you ever feel like you're missing just the right note. The chromatic harmonica's impeccably designed slide button system makes every note, every style, and every expression available to you on one beautiful harp. Whether you're playing sophisticated, tasty jazz melodies or your favorite pop tune, you can even change keys mid-song for artistic impact. Use the Hohner 270 Super Chromonica to lay it down like Toots Thielemans or the great Larry Adler. Any style or mood you need-major, minor, blues, or bebop-is available on the chromatic Hohner Chromonica. Hohner builds the Super Chromonica with a wood body for a warm tone that covers 3 complete octaves.

Hohner is a family company founded in 1857 in Trossingen, Germany by Matthias Hohner. Hand-made quality and close attention to detail has set Hohner apart from the beginning. A top leading brand in harmonicas, Hohner harps are distributed worldwide. Hohner harmonicas are played on the street by buskers, in intimate nightclubs, on festival stages, and even in Carnegie Hall. Despite a diverse harmonica line used in music from country to classical genres, the most famous Hohner harmonicas are their simple, 10-hole diatonics used frequently by blues, rock, country, and folk musicians.

This harmonica is a classic. It has been around forever, with very few changes. I have a new one, and one from the 30's. They both sound and play the same. You can buy one harmonica (any key will do, with "C" being the most practical) and play in any key, as all notes are available, you just have to learn your scales. The quality is superb, and so is the sound and ease of playing. If you want to find fault with it, you can find it in its old-school design. The comb is wood, requiring proper care. The reed plates are nailed to the comb (screws make more sense). There are windsaver valves, a necessary evil that eventually requires replacement. A thorough cleaning is not possible without major surgery. But all that taken into account, I really wouldn't change a thing. You can buy more modern designs, but I have been playing the old design since I was a child. It works for me...

Comments about Hohner 270 Super Chromonica Chromatic Harmonica:

I, originally, purchashed the Hohner G harmonica. The 4th draw hole produced a discordant sound. I called Musician's friend and was told I was three days late on the warranty; I needed to contact Hohner. I travelled to Glen Allen, VA and talked to Hohner and they repaired the G Harmonica at no cost. Even shipped it back to me at no cost. The Hohner people were very friendly and professional in their dealings with me, for there was absolutely no question they would make things right.
The C Harmonica was of the same excellent construction quality as the G Harmonica and it has funtioned as expected. I just hope no problems are determined '3 days' out of warranty, but I now know the Hohner people will stand by their products. Have a great musical day.

The standard for Chromatic harps for 30+ years.

Comments about Hohner 270 Super Chromonica Chromatic Harmonica:

I have been wailing on the harp since I was a teenager... no, a pre-teenager. The 270 is an indistry standard - I have gigged with this harp since I was a kid (no joke, my first was like in the 1970's, and it was a used low G reedbender 270) , I have done everything from live audience to streetcorner to jam sessions. You gotta KNOW how a harp works - especially a chromatic - to play one and do it well, and if you're not willing to break in your babies, you get what you deserve... but seriously, this is one of a few chromatics that Hohner makes (the Amadeus is another, the super 64 is maybe the 3rd) that once you have it broken in, you can **work** this harp, it responds like a masarati to a gran prix driver. Why I love the 270 - can you say ANY key availability? You get (IIRC, counting the oddball tunings, 17 or 18 harps) the ability to grab any harp and WAIL in any key... bend those reeds, warp that vibe, and even if they're playing in E flat... yeppers, you can ride that train, and do it with soul. Those that cannot play this machine... well, like your perfesser and momma said, practice, practice, practice. ;)

Comments about Hohner 270 Super Chromonica Chromatic Harmonica:

Speaking from my experience, my Hohner 270 Super Chromonica was given to me by my cousin and his wife. That was about 14 years ago.
I have no idea how old it is but it was well cared for.
The previous owner was a musician who died and left it, along with other harmonicas to my cousin's family.
I carefully disinfected it and discovered that it is a really fine instrument of high quality.
I love the way it plays and sounds.
As for size of the instrument, it's a common problem with most chromatic harmonicas. It's larger and not as comfortable to hold or as easy to clean as a diatonic (which is smaller).
If Hohner harmonicas are made the same way that they were made 20 years ago, I recommend the Hohner Super 270 Chromonica.
