  • nice harmonica

I'm not really much of a harp player. I have a couple of hohner blues harps, but I got this marine band in G to play along with Neil Youngs Heart of Gold. I have to say, I like the sound of the marine band a lot better-- it's crisper and easier to bend notes, for me at least. Maybe I'll tackle some Dylan now too.

  • Hohner Marine Band... History Tells It All

As reviewed by m webber on 12/23/2010

The Hohner Marine Band is the harp for me, the smaller stature of this harmonica doesn't bother me, I play it mostly straight without cupping anyway, for the reason of playing with guitar and rack...you get used to it, after starting with the seven piece bluesband and moving on to Lee Oskar, Special 20, Suzuki Bluesmaster, Harpmaster, the Marine Band is the one with a smooth, fine tone and volume, with plenty of resonant, the pear wood comb is another added feature, where as I find it easier to bend and find the notes, the above brands I've mentioned are all fine harps and recommended, the Hohner Special 20 is actually the same as the Marine Band, the only diference being the 20 is made with a plastic comb, the bottom line - Marine Band is my chosen preference, too bad I didn't start with'em, just the process of learning, thanks to Hohner learning cross-harp was made easy for me, (already knowing the keys), Hohner provides a cross-harp chart on most of their products.

  • The best made by the best

If your going to play blues there is only one harp you need the Hohner Marine Band. I've been playing Blues harps for 4 years now and just got 2 of these harps and WOW!! I wish I had gotten them earlier, they give you that tone you want and need. Easy to control the bends, overblows sound great. The only con for me is that their a little bit smaller than the special 20s so it took some time to get used to how they felt in my hands. But now I'm going to get a set of these and a set of Special 20s for back-ups and playing rock. Do yourself a favor and buy a Marine Band
