I picked up one of these recently and overall I am very happy with it. I had been wanting a travel guitar for quite some time but wasn't in the market for something crazy expensive and several of the other travel or mini guitars i have come across still had a fairly good sized boy on them. This is nice with the VERY small body and full size neck. The pick up sounds fine, not great - a tad muddy, but rocking none the less. The neck has a decent feel to it. Super easy to travel with, i schlepped mine back from Europe with zero issue. The gig bag is comes with is very handy, but doesn't provide a ton of protection (i pack T-shirts around the guitar inside the bag for added protection. lol

OK - so that all being said, there are a couple things that need to be pointed out. CHANGE STRINGS RIGHT AWAY. The strings that come on it are trash, will not stay in tune and are super crazy light. I went to some 10 gauge slinky and it stays in tune and sounds awesome now. The strings are a bit high, so some adjustments will need to be made by the new owner or the shop when you get it.

Beyond that, for the $$$, it's a great choice.

I bought this guitar after having surgury on my right elbow, and the brace I had to wear really interfered with being able to play.. The little Hofner did work as needed, BUT it would not stay in tune regardless of strings used. I was also disappointed to find that the body of the guitar was made of what appeared to be particle board. On the plus side, it was extremely easy to play, and it sounded killer.

I went from a big 4 door pickup to a Jeep Wrangler. There's no longer room to take my full size Les Paul when I go see my son on weekends. The Hofner Shorty works perfect.

I bought it to use as a practice unit as I haven't played for awhile. Really like it. the small body was tough to get used to but shortly found a good way to hold it. Now works well

Comments about Hofner Shorty Electric Travel Guitar:

For the price, I didn't expect it to be top quality regarding sound, electronics and materials. However, I do expect some form of quality control before approving item for sale. The fretboard had a groove on the 5th fret. The pick guard, pickup, strap plugs were all screwed in incorrectly. Screws were inserted on an angle and stripped out. If the manufacture took a little pride in workmanship this product would be awesome for the price.

Great little practice guitar. Fun to sit with while watching TV, running through chords and licks. Intonation is a little off but adjustable.

Great feel, great sound, great size

Comments about Hofner Shorty Electric Travel Guitar:

Just received my black Hofner Shorty after waiting a month or so due to its backorder status, hooked it up to an active studio monitor and was floored by how sweet it sounded. The action was low, as I prefer, and the only issue is that it's taking some time to find the best way to balance it on a strap so that the neck stays upright. One reviewer solved this by tying a shoe to the bottom strap pin as a counterbalance to the neck, as wherever you travel to you'll likely have a shoe (and don't really need it for walking while you're playing your shorty). I think the balance thing will work itself out with some trial and error. The soft gig bag is OK if it's unlikely to get knocked around, but I picked up a hard Washburn Rover travel guitar case that fits it perfectly if a little tight around the headstock. First angle the headstock down and into its portion of the case, then put the body of the guitar into its part of the case.

          A Value For The Price

          By Jason Rogers

          from Glenwood, MD

Comments about Hofner Shorty Electric Travel Guitar:

I bought this guitar to play when I travel or go on family vacations. For $149, I figured I would give it a chance. As others have said, it is neck heavy, but this was not much of an issue for me - especially when using a strap. It was awkward to play at first, but I was used to it in an afternoon. No apparent issues with the construction and the set-up was not bad out of the box. Stays in tune well and sounds pretty good.

          The little guy

          By CHARLES RILEY

          from Ma

Comments about Hofner Shorty Electric Travel Guitar:

Overall, a great little travel guitar. It was really a mess setup wise-meaning, it needed real strings-not the rubberbands it came with. Neck needed a tweak. Intonation was horrible. String openings on the nut at the headstock needed some opening and a bit of a lube. Cute little case. Holds tune just fine now. Sounds great and actually rings like a real 2 octave neck guitar.
