Comments about Hofner Ignition LTD Violin Electric Bass Guitar:
I am a bass player in a group of grey haired old men who play 60s influenced rock. We play out several times a month and practice weekly. We don't make our living playing but are at the point of opening locally for some of the major 60s and later regional and national acts. I have been playing guitar or bass for over 50 years and have gone through many guitars and basses over the years. During the past few months, I have migrated from my American Jazz Bass to a Hofner Icon series B Bass. So when I saw the ad for a red Ignition bass in my FaceBook feed, I had to have it. When I received it, I replaced the strings with a set of LaBella 760FHB2 flat wounds, tweaked the truss rod to take out some relief, and adjusted the bridge height and placement.
After the initial adjustments, I find the intonation to be almost perfect for all strings and certainly as good as any B Bass I have had. My Icon can also stay in tune all night and I have no reason to believe the Ignition will be any different. The band doesn't really play any hard rock so the tone through my Fender Bassmen 250-15 using a heavy pick matches what I need for the style of music we play. Also the bass is light weight due to the hollow body which is good on my old back. And the red color will look super cool on stage.
I can't really think of anything I don't like about it. The range of tone is limited since it doesn't have a tone pot, but that's the Hofner set up and the tone I do want is there. It's not a German Hofner but I can't find any problems in the build or the finish or the performance and it does what I need. As long as I keep playing, if something happened to it, I would buy another to replace it.
