  • Very Good DJ Controller for the price!

    This is a very Good DJ Controller for the price. Don't listen to the other reviews about the Headphone Jack! They do not understand the product and its target market. There are many professional DJ Controllers that do not have headphone jacks built into the controller. Those that do are 2X, 3X and 5X the price You get around this quite easily. If you have an external USB Sound Card(and Most DJ's already have these, eg Numark dj i/o, Native Instruments audio 2DJ, Audio 4 DJ, Fast Track pro, Maya 44, Gigaport or many others),these USB Sound cards all have the ability to hook up your Headphones for deck monitoring.These USB Devices can be purchased for $100-$199 In addition, you can use other 24 Bit External USB Sound cards like Creative X-Fi Go or the Turtle Beach Audio Advantage. With these cards you can plug your headphone into your Notebook or PC headphone out plug and configure though the software the main mix line out through the USB external sound card device and the secondary or cue line out to the internal sound card/headphone jack. This way you can listen to the other deck for cuing while the main deck that is playing is fed through the external sound card. It works quite well with Virtual DJ Pro, and with Tracktor DJ Studio. If you don't have an external sound card you should buy one. You can get a good 24 bit USB sound card for or move up in price and functionality and get one of the top rated units I described. The other alternative is to buy the Hercules DJ Controller MK 4 which is due out soon that is the same unit but has the built in sound cad with headphone jack. I prefer to have separate units (controller and sound card)rather than an all included unit. More flexibility.With an all in one controller if you have a problem with the controller you may lose both audio and software control together. This is just my preference. The only thing that I wish the unit had was more control functions for the effects, ie the ability to change effect parameters. Also wish it had the ability to add VDJ Samples, but i bought a naopad and will try to use this to give me better control of effects and samples. Bottom line is that the Hercules DJ Controller MP3 E2 is targeted at DJ's, especially Mobile DJ's who already have a USB Sound Card. The Hercules DJ Controller MK4 is targeted to those Dj's who do not have a USB Sound Card. For the price I give it a 4 STAR rating and could be even a 5 STAR if they had provided more control features. Very Good Unit for Mobile DJ applications. If you to a lot of high end Club DJ gigs you'll need a more robust controller.

    First of all let me tell you that if you are a "professional DJ" you should know that at $99.99 this controller is definitely not going to perform as something costing ten times as much. With that said all I can tell you is that if you read the description or better yet if you go to the Hercules site and do some research, this little thing does everything as described, now could it be better? yes, but it is an entry level controller,so keep that in mind when choosing, I bought one and I'm in no way trying to pose as a "professional DJ" and it works for me.

    I love the fact that one can load files from the control without using the computer, however, it lacks the capability to use a headphone without an extra component. This means that the DJ cannot mix his song properly. I don't know if it was just mine but there was no shoulder strap even though there are slots for hooking the strap. Overall, the product is nice with a sleek and compact design, and the version of Virtual DJ is very attractive. In the next edition there should be an headphone jack incorporated.
