Comments about Hart Dynamics Hammer Kick and Inverted Beater:
My family owns two electronic drum rigs - a Roland and an Alesis. The Roland has a nice kick pad, but we were not impressed with the Alesis kick. Plus, I determined that I had much better rhythm and bass stamina using my heal (I tend to tap my my heal rather than my toe and that uses much stronger leg muscles so the hit on the kick is much harder and sharper). Trying to reverse the position of a standard kick pad was not going to work, so I looked for alternatives. The Hart Hammer had the right profile and design. Some others I've seen are too narrow to support a double pedal setup (unacceptable :-). So after finding the right pedal position and adjusting the sensitivity of the Hammer (in the brain), it works great. It can make really great bass at even low volumes and of course can shatter windows at high volume. The other thing I really like about the inverted design is that the motion of the pedal does not tend to creap (the traditional setup even on a floor mat constantly moved away from me under heavy pounding and had to be moved back in place frequently) - it stays in place and can take really hard and fast pounding. One star lost only because as a kick, it obviously cannot feel or sound exactly like a traditional bass drum... but it's a great "pad" in any case. And if you decide you don't like it as a bass, you can convert it to a cowbell :-)
