Harmon/bubble brass mutes are used by trumpeters, flugelhornists and trombonists around the world. While both mute styles offer their own benefits in terms of altering the sound of your instrument, they definitely have their differences. Harmon-style mutes fit tightly into your instrument's bell and deliver the sound to a small tube that contains a hemisphere. By placing your fingers over the hemisphere in various ways, you can create the "wah-wah" sound that's commonly heard in big bands. As for bubble-style mutes, these are basically newer versions of the "original" harmons; they have excellent intonation in the lower register and play in tune exceptionally well.

So which harmon/bubble brass mute should you start with? That will depend on your instrument of choice, budget and personal tastes. Trumpet and cornet players have many models to choose from, including the Trumcor Zinger Harmon-Style Trumpet Mute. Boasting a comfortable dynamic range, consistent pitch and terrific note slotting, Trumcor clearly did an incredible job at upgrading the original harmon-style mute for a new generation of trumpet players. Another great choice is the Jo-Ral 2C Trumpet Aluminum/Copper Bubble Mute. Made of spun aluminum, this mute has been tested to perform perfectly in all registers and the addition of copper provides a warm sound that's ideal for solo work.

Now for all you trombonists, you owe it to yourself to check out the Jo-Ral TRB-3 Trombone Bubble Mute. Solidly built and very affordable, jazz musicians worldwide are big fans of this wah-wah type mute for its free-blowing sound and louder buzz. Or, if the flugelhorn is your passion, feast your eyes on the Jo-Ral Copper Bottom Flugelhorn Bubble Mute. Like the trombone mute, this model is also favored by jazz players and has a free-blowing sound in all registers.

So there you have it! Today's selection of harmon/bubble brass mutes is obviously filled with high-quality choices to suit every style, instrument and price range. All you have to do is dive into this section and see for yourself. Make no mistake, there's a mute here that will make you excited about hitting the stage and exploring your brass instrument talents.
