Overview

From Harbinger’s MuV Series of ultra-portable PAs, the MLS800 Line Array PA system is a superior 800-watt complete system that is ideal for gigging musicians, singer/songwriters, presenters or anyone who needs a simple, portable, turnkey sound reinforcement solution. The MLS800 is an all-in-one system that uses six 2.75 in. high-frequency drivers (larger than anything in its class) for better high and mid-range audio performance, and an 8 in. low-frequency driver for expansive warmth. For even more mid-range clarity, a unique cab design augments mid-frequencies for even better sonic articulation.

The built-in 3-channel mixer lets you connect and control microphones, guitars and line inputs, plus there is also a stereo input for any mobile audio device. A 2-band shelving EQ control allows you to tailor your sound to any venue. The built-in Bluetooth audio means you can use any mobile phone or computer tablet to instantly incorporate additional audio wirelessly. And for larger venues, you can easily daisy-chain units for even more coverage. The column is configurable to full or half-height, and the included carry bag makes travel and storage easy.

This unit is a direct competitor to the extremely popular L1C unit from a company who's name rhymes with "nose." I went to my local GC with the intent to purchase the L1C for home and club use. I tested the L1C, and the MLS800, at the advice of the sales person. I'm glad I did. The bass response in the Harbinger is a bit better. It's not the ideal environment to hear all the nuances from these units. But, the mids are, perhaps, a bit less pronounced than the L1C. As far as volume is concerned, both are loud enough for small to mid sized environments with moderate background noise. The L1C has some nice tonematch features built in for a single mic and acoustic guitar. And, if that's all you need, the L1C is a great little unit. So, why buy the Harbiner? Two reasons: price and flexibility. The cost is 70% of the L1C. I paid even less during the weekend sale. Secondly, the MLS800 has three independent channels. Two are XLR combi jacks, and the third is a line in or bluetooth. The L1C does not include bluetooth, which turns out to be my favorite feature. The L1C also includes one XLR mic preamp with predetermined effects built in. Hope you like them. (You probably will.) Otherwise, the L1C requires the use of a single mono TRS (balanced) cable, or RCAs, for anything else that you want to plug into the unit. Even their own T1 mixer has stereo outputs. That's a negative for me. Most of my guitar and vocal processors use XLR outputs. Therefore, if you like the L1C, and you want more flexibility in the inputs, this is the unit for you. If you are a full time musician, and need a road worthy unit, consider the L1 Model II, or a modular PA system. This was not designed to be hauled around, setup, and broken down at 3 gigs a week.

Comments about Harbinger MuV MLS800 Line Array PA System with Bluetooth:

I have used this product a couple of gigs and I am very impressed with this thing! I compared it at the store with the Bolse L1 and the JBL eon one. This unit out performs them both hands down and in price.

    • Easy to set up
    • Good volume
    • Great sound
    • Takes up little space
    • Very portable

    Cons

    Best Uses

    • Practice
    • Small gigs

Comments about Harbinger MuV MLS800 Line Array PA System with Bluetooth:

Just purchased and have not pushed it too hard yet. Practiced alone and then later with friends. Ran vocals and electric drums, had a great sound in a small space. Let me add, I also had a 500 watt sub attached, but together, it was great. For an acoustic solo or duo act, I'd say no sub needed. The system has nice clarity and it can surprise you with how much volume comes out of this little thing. It seems solid enough other than the control knobs, but if you treat them gently you should be ok.

I'll probably only run vocals and then either a keyboard or the electronic drums thru this. It sounds like it should be ok for my four piece rock / country group at small to maybe smaller medium sized locations. At the price, a second system would all but take care of business for the larger locations.

I will be testing this out as time goes, if something changes, I will post updates for sure. At the moment, I'm happy, let's hope it stays that way.

Comments about Harbinger MuV MLS800 Line Array PA System with Bluetooth:

I'm a mobile DJ. I bought this tower during a sale at an excellent price. I've used it at a gig and it sounds phenomenal. Very light and compact. I was able to bring everything I needed for the gig with one trip. I used the tower with it's master volume at only a quarter of the way up and it was plenty loud for the small party room we were in. I got a lot of compliments from the patrons on how good it sounds. My only small gripe is that the base/woofer doesn't come with a protective cover. I bought a storage bin for $13 and lined it with egg crate material to protect it. This works just right. People were concerned with it's durability. It is plastic but I'm not concerned. I baby my equipment so I'm sure it will last for years to come. I also DJ with a Bose system at a neighborhood bar. So I know first hand how they compare. The Harbinger is rated to have higher output. I believe it. I can't even imagine having to max out this tower. It would have to be a pretty huge venue to have to do that. It is amazingly loud for as small as it is. For the price difference, I think the Harbinger is the way to go. The sound is great. You would really have to be a sound technician to decipher a major difference in sound quality between the two. I'm very happy with my Harbinger MLS 800 tower so far.

Comments about Harbinger MuV MLS800 Line Array PA System with Bluetooth:

I owned one of the original Bose line array units and was quite happy with it. Alas, it was stolen out of a storage unit with most of my other big PA equipment, and I used the insurance proceeds to buy a very capable conventional PA system. I have used friends' L1 units since, and the original is still a fine product, if typically Bose pricey.

I helped a friend put on an initial open mic event at a bookstore next to our local Guitar Center yesterday, and GC provided an MLS800 for the occasion. I host and do sound for several local open mics and didn't want to be back and forth to the MLS to make adjustments, so I set up my Soundcraft Ui16 digital mixer as a front end and mixed off an iPad. This setup neutralizes any EQ/balance issues the MLS might otherwise present (some reviews noted a perceptibly sharp crossover, for example), because I could tweak the tonal balance with the Ui's parametric EQ and also use its feedback suppressor to counter the tendency of these line-array units to feed back when placed behind performers at close range (since the mics are pointed right at the array). If we do this again, we'll simply situate the MLS off to one side, as the sound out of these array units is relatively omnidirectional compared to boxes on tripods.

Now, as to sound quality. I was amazed at how well a "value" brand such as Harbinger compared to a premium brand such as Bose. It was very bright, verging on brittle, at first, but I was able to EQ that right out of the sound image with the mixer. That tells me that a user should be able to find a sweet spot with the onboard EQ. When I took my turns performing (lightly attended first outing at this venue), I was struck by the clarity of the sound. I could hear every nuance of guitar and voice, without edginess or boominess. Very natural, clear sound.

These compact rigs are no substitute for a full PA in large venues, but there are many settings in which it is plenty of sound reinforcement. I'm impressed.

I mostly use 2 of these for a home stereo. Sounds great and loud! I also plug my acoustic into it. Sounds great. Could use a better EQ though. But I have it hooked to a sound board, so that takes care of that.

Comments about Harbinger MuV MLS800 Line Array PA System with Bluetooth:

I am a solo musician and this is a great PA. I came in to GC to use my 15% Labor Day coupon with plans on purchasing the JBL EON One but instead decided on this unit. In my opinion, this unit sounds better than the Bose L1 and comparable to the JBL. The low end is excellent for an 8" sub. Price - at $499 a second one will be coming soon. Portability, easy set up and take down. So if your tired of cables, speaker stands and heavy tops, consider the Harbinger MLS800. As a musician and DJ, I already have subs if I need more low end and 2 Alto TS212 if I need to cover more areas. I highly recomend this unit.
