We had a preowned B52 Matrix 1000 blow a channel during our worship service, so I brought it back to GC for an exchange. Unfortunately, there are not a lot of pre-owned B52 Matrix systems sitting in stock. The guys at GC helped us out by choosing speakers that fit our meager budget and this Harbinger Sub really hits. We're filling a 300 person church sanctuary and this sub does fine. We have it connected to Behringer 12inch powered tops rated to 550W each. At first we had to play with the levels of the tops to integrate the sound but once we got it, the sub and the tops work perfect together. We're running a mixer with 10+ singers and a full band and this sub hits and stays tight. All of our members say the B52 was too boomy, but this Harbinger/Behringer combo is so much tighter and punchier that you really feel the music more during our worship. We're all surprised that the amps don't even get hot. The Harbinger is so much more accurate in the bass lines than the B52 and it never sounds muddy. The guys at GC told me that this sub is built by QSC for GC, and if you look at the amp section in the rear the QSC resemblence is there. I was initially going to upgrade to the B52 matrix 2000, but the guys at GC said we could put something together that will slam the B52 and save our church a couple of dollars and they came through. We made the right choice and have no regrets with the Harbinger. Thanks to all the GC guys that helped us out.

After reading all the other reviews, I'm thinking maybe I am just unlucky. Where do I start? I ordered this sub online the first time and it arrived at my business with both bottom corners crushed. I send it back because I know these things can happen in shipment. I contacted GC, they received the crushed one and sent out a new replacement. It arrived several days later-crushed also, this time it was the rear bottom corners. The only reason I didn't just drive to GC(15 miles away) was because they were out of stock. So, this time I waited until the GC got their shipment of stock and I went in to inspect the sub before I bought it. It looked flawless, so I bought it! The first time I use it, It activated the red limiter LED a lot and even shut down and recovered a couple of times. I thought maybe I had something hooked up wrong. The next gig, I thoroughly studied the instructions and hooked it up in accordance to them, it did the same thing again. Now, at this point I have went over my 30 day return policy and GC told me(in so many words) "good luck with that". So, I have contacted Harbinger at least 4 times, they are no help at all! They do not even have a contact phone number, only fake email. I am stuck with a big heavy piece of furniture that resembles a sub woofer.

Rocks my parties all night long!

By DJ John Towers

from Oceanside, CA

Comments about Harbinger HP118S Powered Subwoofer:

Just like a couple other customers who own the same sub, I was also skeptical about this brand. Harbinger...what? To my surprise, this baby puts out! I've owned my first powered Harbinger 18" sub for a good solid year and haven't had any problems yet. Powered speakers in general make every reason in the world worth it. Throughout the numerous house parties that I've DJ'd at, I get all sorts of awesome compliments. The bass is DEEP! If you're looking for an awesome sub for the quality sound and durability, look into this sub by Harbinger. For an even sweeter deal, use those coupons on this beast, I know I do...just think it this way, free waranty!

good low end

By Chris

from Tampa, Florida

Comments about Harbinger HP118S Powered Subwoofer:

I compared to every sub that GC had in the live sound area I won't bash other brands,,,but for the price this did beat in my opinion 2 major brands hands down. I do think the QSC hpr 18 powered sub has an edge in spl, but is also more expensive. I use 2 QSC k-12's and this powered sub in the middle or off to the side depends on my gig, have made a room of 300 + very happy and the room was full of low end as well as good clean music. I would definitly buy this powered sub again.

Not disappointed

By JR

Comments about Harbinger HP118S Powered Subwoofer:

I was looking for a sub that would balance our sound system. So, my boys & I went to GC to try some out. Sales rep was great and ansewered every question. We walked out with two of these bad boys;-). We have been using them for outdoor gigs for the past month and we are not disappointed in sound they produce. If you get a chance, grab them. Very simple to plug into our mixer mono imput.

Happy

By Ron

from Allentown, PA

Comments about Harbinger HP118S Powered Subwoofer:

I bought this sub primarily for my wedding DJ business. My company does an average of 2-3 weddings a month. I originally had one shipped which I purchased in store. The unit arrived damaged. Plugged it in and it smoked, upon further inspection it was obviously damaged in shipping. (parts were rattling around inside) I took back into GC they took the return (they were friendly and helpful.. I was really dreading having to return it) and told me there was another unit at a GC in a nearby town so I drove to that store and picked a new one up. Since then............I have been more than happy with this sub. I bought it primarily because of the conveniance of a powered sub. It's VERY heavy but the wheels it comes with help. I just line out the monitor output in my Behringer Europower2000 mixer for Dj gigs. Also have used it with my band at an outdoor show and it provided plenty of low end. I pair it with 2 12inch Peavey PR 12 speakers. With this sub I run only the Mids and Highs thru the Peaveys. Someday when money isnt a factor I'll upgrade to something that provides comparable or better sound that is smaller and lighter... But for now at this value nothing GC carried could touch it.

Couldn't be happier..

By Craig "DJC" Chladny

from East Peoria, IL

Comments about Harbinger HP118S Powered Subwoofer:

This sub is a great piece of equipment. At 97lbs, it's easy enough to load in and out, and having the built-in casters was one of the features that sold me on this sub. I currently have it paired with two APS15 cabinets, and am planning in the near future to upgrade to a second HP118s and two of the HP215's. I like my APS15's because they're light weight and really do sound pretty good for not a lot of money, but pairing them with this sub made all the different in the world. I'm using them with the high-pass filter and they sound better than ever while the sub is filling in a good, tight bass. One thing I have that might be my mistake, and might be a Harbinger thing, but it seems the woofers are wired backwards. In normal phase it seemed like the sub was bottoming out, but in reverse phase it sounded louder than ever and crystal clear. I thought I noticed bottoming-out in my APS15's, but I wasn't too sure. This has me guessing I was right, though.

Couldn't Handle the Dubstep

By Horse Force

from Milwaukee, WI

Comments about Harbinger HP118S Powered Subwoofer:

I bought this sub with the hope that it would fill a small bar (80 people max) pretty well with some full low end. I had my doubts about the supposed "129 dB SPL" but was willing to try it out. First gig out, this thing was pumping all night, but eventually overheated and shut off, leaving a plasticky smell (and at the time of failure, it DEFINITELY wasnt putting out the promised 129 dB spl.) My experience with powered subs is that they are built to handle a line output from a mixer (which was what I was feeding it) and automatically limit the signal if it gets too hot, protecting the driver from blowing itself. I used to work in a high end studio in NYC where hip hop heads would absolutely blast our Mackie powered sub for a continuous 8 hours, and that thing could always handle whatever you threw at it. Granted, I am playing some extremely bass-heavy music (Hard Dubstep) and there is pretty consistent sine-wave bass, but come on, 3 hours of low end and all im left with is a blown woofer. Whatever, as long as I get my money back... I am giving this 2 stars because it definitely sounded good when it worked, it just couldnt handle the Dubstep. Oh well, I cant get too mad at it; there are plenty of woofers that have fell victim to the relentless bass of modern dubstep. I'll probably just save up and build my own 18" horn woofer when i have the time.

Great Sub at even a great price

By Dj HVR71

from Dallas - Fort Worth TX.

Comments about Harbinger HP118S Powered Subwoofer:

I went to GC to purchase a replacement for my QSC 151W. Nothing wrong at all with QSC, just the weight of the sub was taking its toll on my back. The sales rep showed me some expensive subs that could easily replace my QSC 151W. However, they were expensive. Enter the Harbinger Powered 18 Sub. I heard this sub and I was skeptical at first because I never heard the brand. However, once the sales rep turn the power on, this babies sounded beautiful. The sound is tight, and will stand head to head with known brands. I don't know where this subs come from, but kudos to GC for making them part of their inventory. I use this subs with my QSC K12 speakers and its a match made in HEAVEN. Also I used then with my JBL PRX535 and OMG. My Advice for anyone looking for a sub is to take this babies for a test run. You won't be dissapointed. I purchase two of this beauties and so far I am loving it.

By DJ Smooth

Comments about Harbinger HP118S Powered Subwoofer:

A sales rep demoed the a leading brand powered sub and I was really impressed but couldn't quite afford it. I went to GC to purchase the passive version of the HP 118 S. The sales rep wheeled out the powered version instead.Best mistake he ever made. I took it home, hooked it up and it thumped continuously for hours, we couldn't turn it off. The convience of the crossover, limiter, and signal regulator invaluable. It savede me a lot of money on additional equipment. We love it!!!!

This Thing Kicks

By Tommy Thompson

Comments about Harbinger HP118S Powered Subwoofer:

I was hesitant to buy this based on the name...WOW am I glad I did. I did my first gig with it last night which was a sweet 16 party where I played nothing but current hip hop. This speaker bumped chest pounding bass all night with no problems. The kids all loved the bass and stayed on the dance floor all night. I run this with 2 Mackie TH-15 Thumps and I have to say, out of all the systems I've had over the years from DJing and touring with my band...this is some of the best sound I've ever had and at a fraction of the cost. I can't wait for my next wedding gig to hear this sub compliment a wide variety of music. BTW if you're near Ft. Myers Florida, go see Justin in Live Sound. He is great to work with and knows what he's talking about.

Best powered sub on the market!

By Michael Potts

Comments about Harbinger HP118S Powered Subwoofer:

I manage a dive bar/club. We have DJs 5 nights a week and 1 night of live music. This sub gets punished hard and never lets me down. The volume knob is maxed all night. The DJs play all kinds of music but I would have to say that tecno is the hardest on it, and it stands up just fine. I would definitely buy another one if i had the money.

Try them

By Brandon

from Redlands, CA

Comments about Harbinger HP118S Powered Subwoofer:

I am always skeptical of store brands. I didn't want to like these subs, but a A/B'ed them against the comparable QSC K-subs, the Mackie HDs, and the JBL PRSx, and the Harrbingers sounded more balanced, musical, and still hit me in the chest. The K-subs were more percussive and the Mackies were good, but the Harrbingers sounded better. The Harrbingers are heavy and big, but the built-on casters make them alright to move if you have a big enough vehicle. I use them for rock music with Turbosound Milans uppers, and the combo sounds impressive, especially for the price. So far I have had no problems with them. My only complaint is that the logo plate on the front looks cheap.

Perfect for the price.

By Dj Tie

from Fort Myers, Fl.

Comments about Harbinger HP118S Powered Subwoofer:

I purchased two of these subs for my mobile dj rig. Although they are 97 pounds they are still easy for me to get in and out of my truck. The casters are a huge help and make pushing the beauties even on a not so smooth road extremely easy. I ran these for 5 hours straight at full bore with the limit light on all night, they stayed cool and didn't cut out once. Bass was perfectly clean. My only complaint is that at full volume (5 O'Clock) they only register at 0db. QSC and Mackie rate 0db at 12 O'Clock, that just makes balancing the volume tricky but not impossible. Hence the reason they were showing limit all night. Other than that I highly recommend these.

Blown Within an Hour

By Brandon Nys

from Hillsboro, OR

Comments about Harbinger HP118S Powered Subwoofer:

I gave this item 3 stars, and there's a few reasons: PROS: - It comes with casters and is really pretty light (97lbs), so it's very easy to move around. - The sub sounded GREAT in the store, and when paired with my Alto 15" mains, it rocks. - It looks pretty nice, solid construction and feel. Doesn't act like it's going to fall apart. - The built-in crossover seems to do a pretty good job. CONS: - Built-in crossover isn't adjustable. Only one volume knob on the back. - Turned the thin on and it smelt of burnt plastic right away. The first power on made a pretty loud pop noise from the woofer. I used it for about 40 minutes to test the levels out and made sure it wasn't clipping, but noticed the telltale crunch of a blown woofer. Initial quality on this unit was poor. Overall, it sounded great in the store, which is why I bought it. I got it home and the thing died on me. I can't give it 1 or 2 stars because I know they can sound good, but I'm really questioning the longevity of the product at this point. It's within 30 days, and I did invest in the extra warranty in case it blows up in a year or two, so I'll get a new one and see what happens.

    By Dillinger

Comments about Harbinger HP118S Powered Subwoofer:

Picked up this bad boy at GC. I was not sure about this no name brand too. I was looking into the JBL or B-52 brand for powered subs. Was trying to stay affordable and not got too out of budget. the crew at GC let me play with it, put it to the test, almost to the point of annoying the other customers. I bought it and it bumps. The only thing about this sub is that, it is powered, but I cannot power my other speakers off the subs channels. Like you would be able to do with the B-52 2000 set up. Warranty set up for any issues, I love this sub, it keeps up with the best out there. NO PROBLEM!
