We were looking for an inexpensive, portable, one-box PA system for school events. This has all the inputs we needed with individual level controls. It's a bit heavy but the built-in handle allows it to be lugged from place to place in our school. The amp is cleaner than I expected at this price. The electronics are very quiet, but not completely "transparent," contributing a very small hum/buzz that is almost never noticeable. The speaker gets nice and loud and works perfectly in our setting, being adequate for a whole-school assembly. There is a five-band equalizer on board which is the only sub-standard item I find. I suspect it was thrown in so that there'd be another "feature." The equalizer's set points poorly match the speaker's acoustics, especially at the 250Hz band. I've used an external equalizer with the speaker and discovered that it can reproduce a far wider range of frequencies than the on-board equalizer can handle. I think you'll do best to leave it alone. All in all, though, a perfect solution to our needs and one I'd recommend to others with similar needs.

after further review I made a fairly early judgement on this speaker I was determined to make it work as a monitor and after a few different tries found a working solution it really isnt bad for the price I think I was expecting to much. So if you are on a low budget like me this will work for small venues.

Best value!

By Kevin

Comments about Harbinger APS12 12" Powered PA Speaker:

I use a set of these for my karaoke business in a medium sized bar off a restaurant. I only need to set the volume to 1/3rd. The quality is awesome and the are easy to pack up. I did one outdoor gig with them this summer and I was honestly shocked. This was the first time I really got to turn them up and put them through their paces. What really amazed me was the strength and quality of the bass when playing average rock music. The set would be perfect of a middle or elementary school cafetorium or for outdoor church events.

Good speaker for very small venues

By Robert

from Concord, NC

Comments about Harbinger APS12 12" Powered PA Speaker:

I bought this speaker in the hopes of using it for small, outdoor weddings, but even with all the volumes maxed out, I don't get the volume I need. The sound seems to get lost in the outdoors. It does have a good sound though, and I'm sure I will be able to utilize it for other settings.

These speakers shine outdoors!

By Richard Greger

from Texas

Comments about Harbinger APS12 12" Powered PA Speaker:

I just received my Harbinger APS12 speaker. The first test, was of course, indoors. I was less than impressed. I then moved it to my back porch and cranked it up in my 2 acres! What a difference! This speaker throws sound a long distance with excellent clarity. The outdoor sweet spots are up close (dance floor) and at 15-30 feet with clarity and volume exceeding 40 yards (limited by my fence). These speakers will shine for outdoor venues. I do not recommend them for small-space indoor use! Even my living room limits sound quality. My test is complete, I will be purchasing another.

Best Bang for the Buck

By Michael Kassel

from Flint, Michigan

Comments about Harbinger APS12 12" Powered PA Speaker:

I got this on sale for $149 a few weeks ago at my local Guitar Center, so I feel like I got an even better deal. I needed this for an outdoor gig, singing and playing baritone ukulele. Even though I was playing outside, this provided more than enough power even though I only had the master up about half way, maybe a little less. I could see people across the street turning to watch as they noticed the music when they walked by, and I even had comments that I was competing with the live, loud five-piece steel drum band down the street (so I turned it down of course - wanted to be courteous). So power is no issue here, provided you have reasonable needs. Sound quality is very nice as well. I find some of the higher-end powered speakers too trebly, but this one is a very good mix; maybe a bit toward the darker side, but you can increase the high end with the 5 band eq that works surprisingly well. Amazing it has both XLR and 1/4 inch choices at this price point. I bought this for the low price, but even if moneuy were no object, I'd still be very happy with this powered speaker. Seems well built and the handle makes it easy to carry. I love it!

Awesome

By Bill Nurse

from Endwell NY

Comments about Harbinger APS12 12" Powered PA Speaker:

I bought 4 of these at half price on black Friday. Wish I'd bought 20. I've bought 4 more since then and will be buying more in the future. The first 4 went to where I work doing sound and lighting. They were for monitors. They worked great! Every act that's used them has loved them. I even had to press them into service as house mains once when we had an unusual setup and my normal mains QSC K2s, were in prime feedback position. The sounded great. The next 4 went to a school where they are used for band monitors and quickie PA systems. Great units. Highly recommended.

Little brother versus big brother

By DAVID ENGLISH

from Nashua, NH

Comments about Harbinger APS12 12" Powered PA Speaker:

I bought the larger APS-15 15" version of these same speakers previously so I felt confident in buying the 12" version. Bought 2 mainly for situations where I didn't need as much volume. I was impressed with the larger ones that they did not have the typical static hum like almost every other powered amp. But these smaller ones do have a bit of it. If you are thinking of getting them for a simple portable PA system for lectures or an acoustic duo, etc. These will get the job done. But if you plan to do any DJ things with them, I'd advise going with the larger 15" version.

Great montitors

By manuel frias

from Indio, CA

Comments about Harbinger APS12 12" Powered PA Speaker:

I use these harbingers as monitors for DJing. These harbingers are great for the price. The lows aren't as great as a wood cabinet speaker but it is pretty well balanced and the equalizer gives you that extra room to adjust the sound. Like other reviews there is a constant "Hiss" it is not loud and doesn't increase when the volume is turned up. Give these speakers a try especially at this price range.

Great little item for the price!

By richard schettino

from St. Petersburg

Comments about Harbinger APS12 12" Powered PA Speaker:

I got this item on sale. It's not only a pretty good powered PA speaker, it's also a stand alone PA in a pinch. It has enough inputs for my guitar, vocals, and an aux input for recorded music, plus graphic EQ. Far cheaper than a Stagepass system and good in a pinch.

Quality sound for an affordable price

By 4913375 4913375

from Independence, MO

Comments about Harbinger APS12 12" Powered PA Speaker:

I had two mixers, one powered, one not. When I decided to stay with the passive mixer, I researched and listened to several speakers. These actually sounded cleaner than a comparable sized Mackie Thump. Since my music ministry is fairly new, I needed to find something that fit into the budget and also provided a clean sound. These more than fit that bill. I purchased a total of 4 and am extremely happy with my decision!
