We were looking for an inexpensive, portable, one-box PA system for school events. This has all the inputs we needed with individual level controls. It's a bit heavy but the built-in handle allows it to be lugged from place to place in our school. The amp is cleaner than I expected at this price. The electronics are very quiet, but not completely "transparent," contributing a very small hum/buzz that is almost never noticeable. The speaker gets nice and loud and works perfectly in our setting, being adequate for a whole-school assembly. There is a five-band equalizer on board which is the only sub-standard item I find. I suspect it was thrown in so that there'd be another "feature." The equalizer's set points poorly match the speaker's acoustics, especially at the 250Hz band. I've used an external equalizer with the speaker and discovered that it can reproduce a far wider range of frequencies than the on-board equalizer can handle. I think you'll do best to leave it alone. All in all, though, a perfect solution to our needs and one I'd recommend to others with similar needs.

after further review I made a fairly early judgement on this speaker I was determined to make it work as a monitor and after a few different tries found a working solution it really isnt bad for the price I think I was expecting to much. So if you are on a low budget like me this will work for small venues.

    Great Product!

Comments about Harbinger APS12 12" Powered PA Speaker:

Just bought one of these as a stand alone booth monitor and couldnt be happpier. Is has a nice clean sound across a large selection of music. Very contollable mid and high range EQ and tight thick bass. This is perfect as a monnitor! I wouldnt compare it to a SRM or EON but then again for the price of the speaker you get close to them. At least a lot closer than you will with any model in this price range. Overall good purchase!

    Awesome Speaker!

    By Vikram B.

Comments about Harbinger APS12 12" Powered PA Speaker:

I bought two of these powered speakers at Guitar Center about two months ago. These speakers were definitely one of the best investments I've made. When purchasing these speakers, one of the key things I was looking for was high sound quality and good live sound. These definitely deliver. When using XLR cables connected to my Line 6 POD X3 Live, the speakers are almost completely silent. with barely any to no hum even with the line and master volumes turned up. Speaking of volume, these get really loud yet maintain high quality sound. While recording at home, they are so loud, I leave the line at 33% and the master at 25%. The speakers are very durable as well. These deliver quality while at a very affordable price.

    Back Yard Boogie

    By Gabe Zapata

    from Fresno, CA

Comments about Harbinger APS12 12" Powered PA Speaker:

The APS 12 is a great buy for a mobile small events DJ. I have rocked a pair at back yard parties and small bars. My croud complemented the clear sound while I appreciate the ability to plug my mp3 player directly into the rca jacks without needing a mixer. Make sure you buy a pair and elivate with speaker stands to get solid volume and punch for 30-50 occupant parties. I recently added a Gemini powered 15 sub and spent less than $1000 on light weight, powered & good looking system. Bring on the summer parties!

USING SINGLE FOR MOSTLY DEE JAYING

    By DJLeswho

Comments about Harbinger APS12 12" Powered PA Speaker:

I do a lot of Motorcycle outreach Ministry events, I was looking to reduce equipment needs and set up time for basic gigs so I purchased a single APS12 Powered speaker and does a great job. Now can be set up in 10 minutes. Most of the time run a computer interface to the powered speaker which allows me to hook up a mike or can hook up a small mixer. Have had this speaker system since May of 2010 can use this just for PA work when giving presentations, etc. Great system for the price. Don't have to run extra cables, amp, etc. Has 2 mic inputs plus RCA Stereo input. Works great for me for what I need and saves wear and tear on my back plus could put in a trunk of a car. Great for also a one person band. I can leave the back breaking equipment for the bigger gigs Been using in average of 600' X 600' size area parking lots would say a bigger area will need 15' or two of these powered speakers. I am just using one but will be picking up another soon

    Not a bad value

    By pgh

    from New York, NY

Comments about Harbinger APS12 12" Powered PA Speaker:

This is based upon my first real-world use, so it's somewhat preliminary. I needed a pair of powered monitors to allow my and to practice at our keyboard players house where we everything except a PA. I had heard these at one GC store and they seemed to be fine for my use. The following day, I went to a different GC store to buy them. The salesperson did everything he could to discourage me from buying them. His suggestion was that I go for the QSC 12 inch monitors. They certainly sounded better, but at $800 each, they were four times the price. This sort of thing really makes me wonder. No doubt, the QSCs would be very nice to have. But in my case, I never play out anywhere where I need to bring a PA. I listened to the Behringers and was not impressed, they sounded more colored in the midrange. Both the Behringers and the Harbingers were not as clear in the high end as the QSCs, but the Harbingers didn't sound bad at all, so I bought them. Yesterday, I took them to band practice. I drove them with my Mackie 1202VLZ mixer. I used a mix of mics, an SM58, an AKG dynamic vocal mic and my Sennheiser MD-421. We were in a live room and I was able to get a really nice sound with the Harbingers sitting on the floor in monitor mode. Volume was fine, the highs came through cleanly and I had no real problem with feedback. My other band members were impressed. They all commented on how good the vocals sounded. Obviously, time will tell how well they hold up. But for my uses, I'm quite happy. They fit in the trunk of my car along with my combo guitar amp and mixer, they are light and easy to carry and they were quiet (no hum or hiss when there was no signal). Budget was a major factor. I was not expecting perfect sound quality at this price and, to be fair, I didn't get it.

    Banquet Blast

    By Kevin McGill

    from Yonkers, New York

Comments about Harbinger APS12 12" Powered PA Speaker:

I just purchased a pair of these awesome speakers yesterday and when I hooked them up in a GYM, the sound was unbelievable! The gym is three times the size of the banquet room that I'll be playing in, so I can only imagine the sound my guests are in store for. Clean highs, moderate lows and a built-in equalizer on each speaker allows me to fine tune the sound for any event. These speakers definitely give my system a bang for my buck!

the price says it all you get what you pay for. If you want it for a loudspeaker to address a small crowd it will work fine but with loud music coming through it as a monitor forget it.had it 3 days and am finding a buyer.

    Better than expected!!

    By Charles B.

    from Detroit, MI

Comments about Harbinger APS12 12" Powered PA Speaker:

I was helping my friend with his speaker setup at his church. This church has 1 powered Peavy and thats it, and it sits on the organ... We hooked them up. The sound was distorted and we wondered why we couldn't parallel them together... We realized u have to have the line volume up first , then the master or u will get a weak messy signal. Also we used XLR cables to jump them. Anyway after screwing around with the connection do dads..We were impressed, the highs good, mids decent. Lows not really there, but ok (hey there plastic, Mackies 450's v2 suck too if u really compare them to wood cabinets). Definitely filled a medium sized church.. Worth the money and when u get more make doe , they make good moniters.

Comments about Harbinger APS12 12" Powered PA Speaker:

These sound stiff at first a strong spike at 2k. Set the master and line at 11 o'clock and play some easy listening music to break them in. They open up real nice after a few hours......also cut the eq at 2k a tad.

    Little brother versus big brother

    By DAVID ENGLISH

    from Nashua, NH

Comments about Harbinger APS12 12" Powered PA Speaker:

I bought the larger APS-15 15" version of these same speakers previously so I felt confident in buying the 12" version. Bought 2 mainly for situations where I didn't need as much volume. I was impressed with the larger ones that they did not have the typical static hum like almost every other powered amp. But these smaller ones do have a bit of it. If you are thinking of getting them for a simple portable PA system for lectures or an acoustic duo, etc. These will get the job done. But if you plan to do any DJ things with them, I'd advise going with the larger 15" version.

    Sporting Event PA

    By Bob

    from Scottsdale, AZ

Comments about Harbinger APS12 12" Powered PA Speaker:

The Harbinger APS12 12" Powered PA Speaker work great for our Olympic and International Style Target Archery Events. We have a 500 feet wide field and we put them in the middle, connect them together and to power and aim left and right. The whole field can hear well. We plug the speakers into a small mixer and input an I pod, wired and wireless microphone. The buzz seems to come from the other power supplies plugged into the same circuit. When we limit whats plugged in, we dont get buzzing or hissing.

I've been around Pro Audio for many years, These definitely are not QCS, but for the price that you pay for these the quality is great. For the beginner audiophile or someone just looking to make alot of noise be sure to check these out. With a built in eq you have the ability to adjust a single speaker to have a little more boom then the other. Again great speaker at a great price.

Comments about Harbinger APS12 12" Powered PA Speaker:

Used it with my trio - just one speaker two voc mics great comments from audience and other musicians. My bass player commented "you set up in 40 seconds." Also used it last night doing my solo act with elect. acustic and backing trks. Just one speaker sounded great. Buy it, it works. If there's any downside it would be the EQ can be more responsive and it does not have a 1/4 in for the line level in or out.
