The Hammerax Whipcrash heavy crash cymbal is crafted with an S-shaped array of hammered microcups that snake across the full body of the cymbal, including two on the bell which can be stick-raked hard or softly to create one-hand crescendos and decrescendos. These microcups are formed directly into the cymbal bronze through hammering. The 10 microcups also add complexity to the sound.
I just purchased the 21" & 18" Whipcrash cymbals, and they are very loud and musical with a dark sound. I also like the look of these as then tend to remind me of the medieval days. "shields" only with a great sound. One thing you can be sure of when selecting Hammerax, in no two cymbals are alike, either visually, or sound wise. The iron smith also signs each cymbal on the inside bell. Be careful when cleaning not to wipe it off. Maybe they should use and inscriber. There is also a special cloth made especally for these cymbals. Don't use the spray, or liquid. I love the explosive crash, the ride capibility, and the loud bell. These are great cymbals if you the look and the sound. Well worth the price. Hope to see more Hammerax at the local music store. Oh, did I mention they are made in the USA.
