Comments about Hal Leonard The Tao of Tunings - A Map to the World of Alternate Tunings (Book/CD):
Mark Shark's book, Tao of Tunings, easily provides a transition toward understanding chords, riffs and relationship of the fretboard and different tunings whether Celtic, DADGAD, G tuning. The book is designed to advance students interested in playing strategies used by other artists such as the Rolling Stones whose work such as Start Me Up, Honkey Tonk women use G tuning to simplify the chord structure. Features of the book including bluesy riff structure while learning to use a slide with stunning results from listening to the CD included in the book. You can learn music from different places in the world such as Hawaiian slack-key, DADGAD tunings used by Laurence Juber of Wings fame and Pierre Bensusan of France. Most of all, you will enjoy the sounds and melodies from these alternative tunings that lend themselves to artistic music expression and hours and hours of playing guitar in ways you have never played before. This book is appropriate for all levels of guitar-beginner,intermediate and advanced. The acoustic quality of the CD is superb and is like listening to Mark Shark in a private guitar lesson. This book will be one of the best purchases you can make as a guitarist.
