Overview

Strings are the most important part of your guitar. They are the source of the sound and are what you are actually playing. In this Riff Notes series book you'll discover everything you need to know about strings, so you can immediately get off to the right start, whether you are playing an electric or acoustic guitar. The two main types of strings, steel and nylon, are fully explored. Steel is metal and nylon is a stretchy plastic. Strings are either plain or wound, and this is how they are referred to when we are talking about a single string. Any guitar you buy comes with strings already on it but knowing all about them, what kind are right for your guitar, and how to maintenance and replace your strings is essential. All of this and more will be explained in this Riff Notes book.

Comments about Hal Leonard Riff Notes - Guitar String Basics:

This Riff Notes volume from Phill Dixon and Christopher Jones continues their trend of high quality, laser-focused, easily readable content suitable for beginners and long-time players. In this one, they cover strings, only strings, and nothing but the strings. The authors cover the different ways guitar strings are constructed, what strings to use on which instrument, what string gauges are most commonly used by players of different genres, and helpful tips on purchasing the right strings for you and getting the most life out of the strings you have bought. This is a slim, high-density purchase and I don't regret it for a second. The tips on restringing a guitar are useful for even longtime players. Even ten years later, I still have trouble gauging how much of the string I should cut off; this will help refresh my memory and stop me from wasting so much money on replacing strings! Like the other two volumes before it (Electric Guitar Basics and Acoustic Guitar Basics), this Riff Notes volume is sure to please. I'm beyond happy with the information provided and look forward to future volumes. Don't let these pass you by!
