The original 1984 edition of this title gained wide recognition and acceptance as the best single-volume work in its field. Now, in response to all the new developments in bass technique and application, GPI has put together a revised and updated edition of the invaluable Electric Bass Guitar book from Hal Leonard. Included in this comprehensive new volume are the most up-to-date instructional columns, private bass lessons, and hard-to-find features from GPI Special Edition: Bass Player magazine. Also featured are important tips and lessons from the foremost artists in the field-Jeff Berlin, Carol Kaye, Nathan East, Stanley Clarke, Billy Sheehan, Jimmy Haslip, Bunny Brunel, and others-who take you all the way from choosing an electric bass guitar to reading, music theory, practicing, improving technique, and soloing. The Electric Bass Guitar book also has a new section on bass repair, maintenance, and modification. 122 pages.

This book is a good place to start. It will give you starting info and where to find more stuff. It breaks the information down into different chapters so finding stuff is easy. Yes I would recommend this to a friend. Makes getting started alot easier.
