  • Hal Leonard Speed Mechanics For Lead Guitar

Speed Mechanics For Lead Guitar by Troy Stetina, is a excellent book that covers everything from speed building excercises to sweeping arpeggios. Besides just the mechanics for speed, Troy Stetina also includes creative soloing, offbeat rhythms, and some very useful music theory which isn't overly complicated. I bought this book as an introduction to shred and speed metal soloing and it has been one of my biggest learning tools. One of my favorite parts of the book is the transcription of "The Flight Of The Bumblebee", which every aspiring shredder should know. For the price, this book is superior to all of the other books I have tried and seen.

  • Book requires diligence!

As reviewed by Petrucci32 on 9/5/2006

"Speed Mechanics" is not a quick fix to give you mega speed. Don't get me wrong, it's a great book, but in order to see results you need to seriously practice this book everyday. The excercises for the left hand do get tedious in this book, but it helps alot! The right hand excercises really get you alternate picking ON TEMPO. I felt that the sweep picking section moved kind of fast for the begginning sweeper. But overall it's a great book and worth the money. I didn't give it a 5 in quality because once or twice the cd skipped.

If you are an aspiring shredder this is agreat book for you. It gives you excellent examples which are easy to follow. Also it has a cd to follow along with. This is one of the best books I have seen for beginning and intermediate players.
