Overview

Right next to its solid body siblings Swede and Super Swede, the Viking is the undisputed all-time classic of the Hagstrom guitar range. Being the proverbial best-seller, it is simply one of the finest and affordable semi-hollow guitars in its genre and the marketplace. The meticulous craftsmanship with press laminated maple body, solid centerpiece sustain block and a set neck made from hard maple, it churns out sounds as diverse as they come. The prominent, yet not too hot, output of the HJ50 humbuckers, delivers a sonic palette as broad as blues, rock, jazz fusion or 60's Beat. You can even take it on a shred spin.

Comments about Hagstrom Viking 2X HJ50 Electric Guitar:

First off, I'm not some master guitarist. I'm quite new to the scene but wanted something different from my solid body, which is an Ibanez S Series, also purchased from Guitar Center (Richmond, VA). The Viking by comparison weighs a ton, so much so that it was noteworthy. This may be common in semi-hollow guitars, I don't know. That aside, everything else about the guitar is great. It has a good feel, the tone is great, the pickups pick up everything and remind me that I'm not so great (as stated above) but when I get it right it sounds amazing. If you're looking to step up from a pure newbie guitar and thrashing out the metal isn't your thing (the low E just isn't suited for it, it gets kind of buzzy especially after being toned down to D or C) this guitar will rock out everything else. I would recommend this guitar all day long.

Comments about Hagstrom Viking 2X HJ50 Electric Guitar:

Being a blues and southern rock player I decided it was about time to get a semi- hollow electric. I have the standard variety of Fenders and Gibson's, tele's, strat's, jags and of course the LP's. I also have several good acoustics. But I was just looking for away to expand my sound, as you know we spend most of our time doing. Problem was I did not wish to drop all that money out of the gate on a Gibby 335, so I started to do my home work. I was introduced to the Hagstrom line from a fellow musician who has several of the older Vikings. After much comparison I decided to commit and ordered this beautiful ax from GC. The guitar is stunning, very detailed and sweet feeling in the hands. But the thing that pulls you away from your other guitars is its fantastic sound and sustain. When I Plugged in and powered up, well I knew immediately I had a new mistress. Being very serious though, after years of playing, gigging and jamming for hours with friends, I found myself with that giddy in the stomach feeling you all remember when you nailed your first solo. I find myself noodling for hours and searching for more and more new material to play, a whole new renewal of that craziness to play that were consumed with. This thing just has that new sound I was looking for. Since getting this I have found a whole new style of performing learning a lot of the old Dick Dale surf stuff. For the price and what you get, jump on it. You will have a quality ax that no one else will be playing and everyone will want to touch and try her. Hey if Hagstroms are good enough to be Pat Smear's favorite guitars, who am I to argue.
