Overview

The Hagstrom Swede Custom Electric Guitar produces fat tone, powerful attack, with two additional tone filters for a wide range of tones. It features some remarkable advances in guitar making. Resinator wood is a natural wood composite material that is homogeneous in nature and is more stable than any standard wood product. It is the perfect fingerboard material in that it eliminates wolf notes or hot spots. It has an articulate sound simular to high-quality ebony, but without any of the problems associated with ebony. It provides anstable and clear tone, and also adds higher overtones and harmonics, which uniquely details each note played. Like the H-Expander truss rod, Resinator wood also plays a major part in producing the special "Hagstrom tone".

Custom 58 AlNiCo Pickup
The choice for Hagstrom's iconic solidbody models Swede and Super Swede was clear as day. The Custom AlNiCo 58 humbucking pickups deliver full-bodied warmth and "the right amount" of output power in perfect combination with crisp string separation and clarity in tone.

Comments about Hagstrom Swede Custom Electric Guitar:

Looks way better in real life than the photo. Cream binding with the black satin finish and brushed nickel hardware is beautiful. I was quite surprised. I bought it to record at home and to take to local gigs as a work horse and I thought it looked kind of bland in the photo.

Doesn't sound like a Les Paul. Brighter and more articulate than an LP. Neck pickup is never muddy even with the tone rolled back. Low E and A strings are really defined like a longer scale guitar perhaps due not only to the pickups but also the resonator fret board (akin to ebony) and the H expander trust rod which provides a metal mass to the neck. I thought without a maple cap it would be darker. Not at all it turned out - very happy.

I didn't expect to use the 3 way tone switch. I thought it would be useless like the tone switch on a Gretsch. What a surprise - this is among my favorite features now.

Also was surprised by the 15" radius neck. I thought I might not like it. But this is fast neck. Only took an hour or two to get used to it. This is another favorite feature now.

I was prepared to send it back if it didn't work out but I'm really glad I took the chance and ordered it (finally after looking at repeatedly on the web site for a couple years).

Comments about Hagstrom Swede Custom Electric Guitar:

Bought this guitar without seeing it first after playing dozens of guitars at GC priced from $1500 and below.

Just to play it safe I had it delivered to the local GC so I can A/B against other candidates. Hands down the best guitar for my needs (home recording and occasional gigs at local clubs).

Didn't think the tone switch would be useful but this guitar can go all the way from dark or mellow to bright or clean. Never muddy.

The combination of resonator fretboard, H expander truss rod and pickups give it more attack than the typical 24.75" single cut with rosewood fretboard.

Wasn't sure I'd like the 15" radius. I do like it - makes for faster playing yet no problem playing cowboy or bar chords.

Wasn't sure I'd like the black satin and no pickguard. Again surprised at how nice it looks with the cream binding and brushed nickel hardware.

      No fret buzz.

I too had a Hagstrom D2h several years ago. I like this guitar much more.

Comments about Hagstrom Swede Custom Electric Guitar:

I traded in my Hagstrom D2H for this new guitar. I'm so dissappointed. It arrived with a cracked neck. I had to return it but afraid to get another new one. I had my D2H for more than 10 years and the workmanship on that guitar was great that I wanted to upgrade to a Swede model.

Comments about Hagstrom Swede Custom Electric Guitar:

I remwember Hagstrom guitars from the '60's but I couldn't afford one back then. Thanks to Guitar Canter, they carry these sweet guitars (they are not that easy to find) and they sell for a reasonable price.

Comments about Hagstrom Swede Custom Electric Guitar:

Stop procrastinating and buy a Hagstrom. There can be no other mid level priced guitar that even comes close. The H expander truss rod system, it's patented because if it wasn;t everybody would probably use it, neck straight and solid, all hardware solid, holds tune well. The custom 58 pickups, no need to ever change these babies out. Do I have regrets, yes I should have bought a hagstrom a long time ago.
