This neoprene pad covers your bass drum head to greatly reduce the kick sound without unduly altering pedal feel too much. SoundOff mutes are specially formulated to provide excellent stick response and are made durable for long life at a reasonable price.
I purchased this unit a few months ago, and unfortunately, it hasn't held up. I play about 2x a month, mostly basic 2x4 and shuffle blues/rock stuff with a little double pedal thrown in for fills. First the rubber pad started splitting horizontally along the brace, then the foam pad went, until I finally had to remove the unit. I would not recommend this product.
This works quite well. I would guess that this cut the sound way down to only about 10% or 15% of the bass drum's normal volume. You could probably play your bass drum in an apartment without your neighbors hearing it when using this mute. At the worst, you might have to hit the bass a little less forcefully. But only if your neighbors are very sensitive.
I bought this in addition to the 'Sound Percussion Total Drum Set Mute Prepack' and am much happier with the full foam pad provided by that pack. This mute here kills some of the reverb but it doesn't really do much to the volume of the initial kick. It's also somewhat annoying to get on and off (not that you'd need to a lot I suppose) since it floats in the center of the bass drum and clamps to the left and right sides, whereas the full size pad, you simply slide into place like a normal drum mute.
