For years, I've practiced only when I was positive I wouldn't be distracting anyone. I always made sure to close all the windows before playing. Not anymore; with this silencer pack, I can bang away as hard as I want, and although the set is still audible in some areas of the house, it's not an overpowering distraction. Someone could definitely carry on a normal conversation in the next room. I've been playing much more since I got the set, and I'm wondering why I never tried this out years ago. The pads stay on the drums well, and you can tell the difference in tone between the drums. There's also pretty good stick rebound. If you hit the pad on top of the cymbals, they're really quiet, but still recognizable as cymbals. If you've been holding back for fear of making too much noise, get this pack and go crazy.
These HQ silencers are decent for use on snare and tom drums, but do not work very well on the bass drum or cymbals. The bass drum head fits perfectly after messing with the non-image oriented instructions, but it does not quiet the drum down. Using the hammer style beater (i.e. double bass beater) it does nearly nothing. Only after changing to the felt-round beater did it quiet it down. The high-hat mutes do not reduce the sound, they just make the sound shorter as like the other cymbal mutes. (i.e. noise for .4 seconds instead of 1 second) All in all they work good on the drums, but for cymbals you need to purchase plastic cymbals to be perfectly quiet.
I just bought these drum mutes about two weeks ago. They come with everything you need. They do a pretty good job on lowering the volume so now you can practise without your neighbors getting mad. They're a little spendy, but they still get the job done. Buy these mutes and practise in silence.
