Comments about Guild Starfire V Semi-Hollowbody Electric Guitar:

I have been playing guitar for nearly 15 years. I play many different styles. I play every week at church, which basically is a cover band. This guitar is my go to. I can get nearly any sound out of it. I have even come close to that strat quack. I played a tele with humbuckers for a long time, but hated the neck. I have always loved Gibson ES 335, but wanted to check all other options before dropping that kind of coin.

A friend told me that Guild Starfire's are like unicorns - Magic...and you can't find them. My guitar center didn't have any, and thanks to their ridiculous 30 day return policy, I thought "i'll just buy it and return it if it's not as good as the 335..."

Well here we are. I never returned it. This has a smoother neck pickup, and a dirtier bridge pickup than the $4000 335 I was comparing it to. The neck is easier to play, and is a perfect fit for the hand. The guitar body is massive! I picked up my strat the other day and it felt like a children's toy. The Starfire is large, but still incredibly comfortable (I am extremely picky!).

The strings out of the box were pretty crummy and couldn't hold tune. Put my favorites on there and tuning is nearly perfect! Out of the box the volume/tone controls were a little sticky/scratchy. But after turning it back and forth a ton, theres no problems. Probably just dust from sitting in a warehouse. The toggle switch is acting funny (sometimes won't activate the neck pickup. If DEOXIT doesn't fix it, i'll change the review. Outside of needing a little cleaning, this guitar is great!! I've had it for just under 7 months. It's a joy to play, and listen to.

Dirty rock, clean jazz, blues, pop... I've gotten it all out of this guitar! Plus it's gorgeous!!!

Buy it. You'll be the only person in the area with a Guild Starfire. They're special.

Excellent! Equal to or better than that other "G" brand name
