Overview

Now there's no more need to borrow your girlfriend's scrunchie or hair tie. Fretwraps are adjustable straps that allow you to you fine-tune the pressure and dampening of the strings effectively cutting the overtones and sympathetic resonance during recording, live performance, two-hand tapping, or any other situation where an extra muting hand is needed for taking out unwanted string noise or ringing. And when you need to change strings, it comes off in a cinch. This smart accessory is for any studio, session player or tapping afficianado. Comes in a 3 pack so you always have one at the ready.

Choose from Small, Medium, or Large in the drop-down menu.

Small - Fits 4-string basses 6-string electric / acoustic guitars and ukuleles
Medium - Fits 5-string basses and 6-string classical guitars
Large - Fits 6-string basses and 7 to 8-string guitars

I was excited about getting these - I've had an old hairband on my main 6-string for years, and it finally died. I also recently purchased an 8-string, and wanted something to mute strings on that as well. The small are a great fit for my standard electric guitars - a Parker Fly, a Fender Strat, and a Fender Tele. Tight enough, but still flexible enough to move. However, the large (which is recommended for 7 and 8 string guitars) is still too small for my 8 string (a Legator Ninja 300-PRO, if anyone's curious). It definitely mutes the strings, but won't slide past the nut, because it's too tight. I have an Ibanez RG7620, and while I didn't try it on that guitar, I suspect it will work fine there, since the neck is slightly narrower. The other major gripe I have is that there is a piece of plastic which joins the muter together. I could see this inevitably scratching or marring the finish or paint of a guitar. It also has a habit (particularly on the 8-string, where it's too tight) of turning sideways. Honestly, the fact it does turn sideways is what makes it work at all on my 8-string. If this were made out of better materials (i.e. replace the plastic with leather, braided vinyl, paracord, or kevlar), it would get another star, but the fact the "large" is marketed to 8-string guitarists is not accurate.

Works great on both 6 string as well as 4 string bass. Takes the overtones out. takes a short time to get used to where to plase the wrap.

Comments about Gruv Gear FretWraps String Muters (3-Pack):

Maybe a bit pricey, but I'm too lazy to make one. Definitely an improvement when playing the fast, thrashy, string jumping metal riffage, and a noticeable difference when doing the multi-string tapping. I've got 6 guitars (1 is a 7 string, Les Paul, Strat, and some C1 Schecters) and HIGHLY recommend going with the large size for all.

Definitely a must for anyone that plays through guitars or basses with high gain. Gets rid of any excess noise. Although I recommend not using them while you're learning to develop good control over the strings.

I use the black "Large" for my 8 string guitar. The difference of putting these above the nut and cheating it slightly below it is nite and day. Kills errant string noise beautifully.

I have had these for over a week now and I really love them. I play 6 string guitars, I have 3 different guitars and this 3 pack was perfect for me. They are really made well and work fantastic. Really cleans up the sound when you play fast and stops open strings from sounding when you don't want them to. The only thing I don't like is the price. They are well made, but the price is to much. But hopefully I won't need to purchase any more of these.

I just got the fret wrap today in the mail and I must say,I am very happy with it. It really helps me clean everything up more. All of my sweep and shred licks sound a lot clearer as well as my riffs. There's no feedback from the touching of strings getting in the way. I gave this a 4 star because I do think this product is way over priced, however I would definitely recommend this product.
