popped one of these into v1 of my lee jackson gp 1000. much more gain and much better note distinction. seems much more crunchy. i personally feel i lost a tiny bit of low end but its definitely worth it. i will most likely swap v2 and v3 from the gt-ecc83 to these. again, great preamp tube!!!
Long story short, I bought a brand new Fender Blues DeVille 4x10 real cheap. The clean channel was astonishing, but the Drive/distortion channel was weak. Very thin sounding, no bottom, no umph, and not very much distortion. After doing some research I replaced the stock 12AX7s with these and the Drive channel now sounds amazing. With humbuckers I get a late 60s 70s classic rock/crunch sound. With single coils/Strat I get a hendrix/SRV blues tone. And my Tele growls like a wild beast! I'm not saying the Drive channel will suddenly let me sound like Pantera or Brujeria. Of course not. But these tubes overwhelmingly improved my sound.
I recently bought these because the old tubes in my Fender Blues Deluxe needed replacement. The others were all EHX, and they were pretty good a couple years ago but time took its toll. I decided on Groove Tubes pretty much solely on reviews on this and some other sites. I had pretty high hopes, and these tubes exceeded even those expectations. I never really got to experience until now how good my amp can sound. My amp sounds so much warmer and fuller than I could have imagined. Get these. Now.
I bought this tube to replace the cheap chinese one in my tube preamp. It sounds wow. warm, detailed and rich. Great buy. Dooooo ittttt.
I replaced the lead tube in my Marshall TLS100 head with one of these. Good solid, gainy tone. A bit milder than the factory Svetlana . .less edge. but then it also was a bit better defined. Good for blues, great for classic rock, ok for the heavy stuff (the Svetlana was better here). All in all i would recommend it as a solid replacement for the factory tube . .especially if you find the factory setup too grainy or noisy.
Just replaced the Chinese brand with this one in a small VR 30 VOX. The amp was thin and the break up was, well I'm not sure, but it wasn't good. This new tube filled in the bottom and the break up is great! With a compressor, it is smooth and hot. It changed this little amp from the inside out.
