Overview

The Groove Tubes GT-12AX7-R3 Select Preamp Tube is the 3rd offering from the same Russian tube factory that builds the R1 and R2, but this one has medium sized plates and a nice balanced tone. Good midrange and average gain. Like all Russian preamp tubes, the sound is a bit lacking in treble area, which is one reason the have a low microphonics and do not feedback or ring as much.

Better Than JJ's !

Comments about Groove Tubes GT-12AX7-R3 Select Preamp Tube:

I have a 1996 USA made, Fender Roc-Pro 700 , which is a SS / Tube hybrid which I got last November. The stock tube while still good , needed to be changed IMO, so at first I bought a JJ 12AX7 which after a few weeks , started crapping out on me. So I heard that Groove Tubes is owned by Fender. Now I know they don't make the tubes, but rather are a distributor of these tubes which are made in Russia and in some cases, China. I decided to check this one out only because I couldn't find any reviews and I wanted to see how it would affect the preamp of my combo. Well, the treble on the clean channel has diminished a bit but not much , and the Gain has increased which I love. I haven't thrown the stock Fender tube away because I believe if it's still good, it's useable. This isn't bad for the buck, so I'll see how long it lasts and hopefully it'll turn out good. I know Groove Tubes has a good rep which is why I decided to go with this one.
