    I've always used groove tubes EL 84 Rs or sovteks. It turns out that they are for alintents and purposes the same tube. When my tubes arrived they were called the gold series and had a nice yellow and white silkscreen label. Haven't ever seen this I contacted groove tubes and was told the gold is their top of the line. They sounded as great as ever ,so what's in a label. I also installed 5 12ax7Rs of the gold series.Same great as ever. Since I had heard of Groove Tubes SAG AX7 MPI, I decided to try one of these. I put this one tube into my phase inverter position and my amp sounded HUNDREDS of dollars better than ever. I will recommend to anyone playing tubes that they try matched GROOVE TUBES along with a MPI driving them. I'm a 60 year old who as learned a new trick! Homer Johnson

  • Not what you'd expect...

    This was my first set of new tubes, so I wasn't expecting Groove Tubes to be Sovtek tubes, but they were, so I was a little disappointed. But when I plugged them in and heard them, I wasn't disappointed a bit. They are much cleaner than I thought they'd be, but they give me just enough room to do what I need. These tubes give me the quick bite I need, and the smooth cleans of Jimmy, Eric, and David. They do take a bit of tweaking, as they pack a punch of mids and highs, but it's nice to know you've got the room to go there if you need a particular tone. All around these are great tubes and should give you all the play you need.

    Most of people write a review when they change their old tubes by new ones, so normally the new ones sound much better than the old ones. I decided to change my new Ruby EL84 by matched GT Rate 8, and I must say that I am very disappointed. The fact that GT do not even bother in covering the original Sovtek EL84 6BQ5 brand in it was not enough to bring my expectations down (they are cheaper, BTW). The problem was when I heard them. I recorded a loop in a pedal, so I could hear exactly the same playing with both set of tubes through my guitar amp. The result: Ruby tubes sounded much powerful and fuller that Groove (Sovtek) tubes. The sound lacked of low and high ends. I expected much more from them. I do not recommend these tubes.
