This was a purchase that met the need of electric / acoustic ukelele. The tone and sustain are decent for such a low priced ukelele. I have a Martin, solid KOA uke, and other deluxe concert instruments. Only a seriously trained player will be able to justify paying over 2K for another instrument. This little tenor will do just nicely for the intermediate player. This is a nice instrument to take to small shows or on the road. Save your money and buy this instrument and focus on practicing and developing your technique instead of over paying for an instrument that you may never grow into. Overall, this is a solid C- instrument for a serious player and more than adequate for an intermediate player. Beginners will also benefit from the consistent playing that this uke offers for such a reasonable price.

I purchased this ukulele online from Guitar Center a few months ago, I wanted to wait a bit so avoid using just an initial impression. The first uke that arrived was obviously a demo model pulled from one of the stores, scratch marks from someone apparently using a pick! Be advised I purchased a new unblemished uke! As this was not satisfactory I called and the customer service was great, they sent out a replacement immediately. The next one to arrive appeared to be brand new and un-played, however, the cosmetics left much to be desired. Although the neck and headstock were terrific, the neck to body joint showed a lot of excess glue on the soundboard! Also, the sides of the uke showed defects (deep scratches) that were simply varnished over. Very poor quality control in my opinion. Also, the stain used is a bit bright for my liking, but, others may disagree. Now, I'll save the possitives for last, the sound plugged and unplugged is great, I did not return this unit as I felt cosmetics aside it was a decent value. I did expect more from Gretsch on the esthetics but I think for what was paid I am satisfied, just let the buyer beware when purchasing online. I would not hesitate to buy from Guitar Center again, however, I will not order anything online, I would highly suggest you go to the store and check it firsthand if at all possible.

Comments about Gretsch Guitars Root Series G9121 Tenor A.C.E. Ukulele:

Another reviewer mentioned getting a delivery of this guitar and described a used-looking model with glue on the fret board and wear. I think I ended up with the same model hecreturned. By the time I got it, it had all if that plus a soiled case and super sharp blown frets. I returned that junk fir a new exchange. (Bad Penny!)
It was worth the week of waiting. (Thank you, GC!)
The nice new model sounds and looks fantastic.
Live, mic'd or with a pickup; sounds really clean and warm.
You can really hear the wood.
Good sustain, and a really handsome design.
Everyone I show it to is impressed.
I recorded it and it sounds so "in tune."
      Worth every penny.
I only suggest you deliver to store and inspect before you take it home.
You never know when that bad penny us gonna show up again!

Got this uke at great price with a 15% off coupon. This uke has a beautiful finish and came with a really nice tan case.
Its got real nice tone and projects very loudly unplugged. Will need a little set up work which is to be expected. I will do that myself. The on board tuner works has a nice a bright display and works great. Have not had a chance to plug it in yet.

Comments about Gretsch Guitars Root Series G9121 Tenor A.C.E. Ukulele:

I am a first time ukulele player, and after doing some research, settled on this uke. I have had it for a week, have practiced a lot, and love it! I really like it as an acoustic, but the electronics are good too. The built in tuner works great, and the strings stay in tune while playing. I came to find out that strings, especially nylon strings, stretch out, so you do have to tune when playing for long periods of time or letting it sit, but that's normal. Some reviews of other ukes say tuning is a problem - but not with this uke, stays in tune and easy to tune! When I got my uke, there was a slight buzz. After doing some research and finding out the multiple causes of buzz in acoustic string instruments, I was able to locate the buzz and fix it easily. There are guides everywhere on uke tab websites about helping you get rid of buzz, as it is a more common uke problem. So don't sweat the buzz if yours comes with a little! Lastly, this uke is made of some good wood. I was even able to safely screw in some guitar strap buttons and play with a strap! I am loving this uke, and will play it for years to come.

Comments about Gretsch Guitars Root Series G9121 Tenor A.C.E. Ukulele:

The electronics sound very good, but the fretboard is not very smooth and there is quite a bit of buzz. This is actually my second one. I returned the first because the buzz was so bad it was virtually unplayable. After tuning, adjusting, and restringing, it still has buzz at certain frets.

                Gretsch Tenor Electric

                By Randolph Scott

                from Worlington, UK

Comments about Gretsch Guitars Root Series G9121 Tenor A.C.E. Ukulele:

I currently own two ukes before this one, a soprano and a baritone. I chose this tenor for the look, the Gretsch name, the Fishman name, the cutaway and the build quality I knew that I would get. I was not disappointed at all in any aspect. The fit and finish is well done, the tone is very nice acoustically and electrically. It works well with both my tube anp and my solid state amp. I'm quite happy not only with the instrument, the gig bag that came with it, but also how Guitar Center handled my purchase and correctly used USPS Priority Mail to ship it to my military mail box. Many vendors ignore this requirement and things get shipped in the bottom of a boat and take 45-60 days to get to me. GC did it right and earned more of my business that other online vendors have lost by not meeting my needs. Overall, a quite pleasant experience by both the manufacturer and the vendor.

I'm a 20+ year guitar player and this is my first uke. I chose the Gretsch because of the Fishman electronics and Grover tuners. This thing is an absolute blast to play! The action was great straight out of the box and the included case is a nice bonus. The built-in tuner works great and confirms that the uke stays in tune extremely well. It sounds fantastic unplugged and also sounds great when I plug it into my PA. I definitely recommend this uke.
