Rich in voice and style, Gretsch Guitars' ROOTS COLLECTION Acoustic-Electric Guitars represent a level of design, detail and craftsmanship not seen since days long gone. Inspired by tradition, yet rooted in pure Gretsch sensibility, these instruments speak with voices that harken back to a bygone era of "living room" choruses and prairie melodies.
Dressed to impress, the G9531-GCFSR Style 3 Double-0 model sounds out loud with a big, rich bass that is full and under control. The high-end is very liquid; not too fast and folds into the tone with a nice, decaying bloom that seems to float through the room. This 24.87 in. scale model is constructed of sturdy, laminated mahogany with a solid Sitka spruce top, a mahogany neck and a rosewood fingerboard. Some of its special appointments include an 1800’s "thin" bridge with solid maple bridge plate, handmade, all-wood early "Arts & Crafts"-era marquetry, unbleached nut with matching "wavy" saddle, and an Appalachia Cloudburst finish.

I tried this guitar based on the recommendation of an employee at Guitar Center in Dallas. I played several more expensive guitars beforehand and he asked me to try this Gretsch. It only took about 5 minutes to fall in love. This guitar plays very well and sounds very fat and sweet. I've played for over 30 years and owned several acoustics but this is far and away my fave. It sounds like it should cost 3 times as much. The factory description of the sound is perfect. It's a very even and balanced sound and I can't wait till I get this guitar broken in. It will only get better with age.
I've had the Gretsch G9531E-GCFSR guitar for about 3 weeks. I had narrowed my search for a travel guitar to the Gretsch G9531 and the Alvarez Parlor Acoustic-Electric. Both guitars played well, but the Alvarez sounded a little better and had the pickup already installed. When the new G9531E-GCFSR arrived at the local GC, I purchased it immediately. The Gretsch just looks great, and plays and sounds far better than most travel guitars. The Fishman pickup system is fine, but not great. I found that setting the volume and tone to the max on the guitar and controlling the volume and tone at the amp achieves the most desirable sounds. The aesthetics of the G9531 are nicer than the G9531-GCFSR, with more attractive fretboard position inlays, rosette, and body bindings. The G9531 also has a pick guard. The Fishman pickup system sold me on the G9531-GCFSR. I purchased a standard classic guitar hardshell case which fit very well. I am very pleased with the Gretsch and would highly recommend it! It is a terrific value! My main acoustic guitar is a Gibson Hummingbird Pro that I also purchased at my local GC in Raleigh, NC.
