Best one we played in the store

By Scott Dawley

from Waukesha, WI

Comments about Gretsch Guitars G9320 New Yorker Deluxe Acoustic-Electric Mandolin:

I went to try out all of the mandolins in stock at our local store, some cheaper, and some models that were considerably more expensive. This one (which I ended up buying) had the best overall playability and tone, even compared with the more expensive models. It's a bright, very well projected sound. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to anyone. Nice little instrument.

Good sound and playable

Comments about Gretsch Guitars G9320 New Yorker Deluxe Acoustic-Electric Mandolin:

People on some internet forums say cheap mandolins are 'unplayable.' Uncertain what that means, because this Gretsch is playable.....well, it emits decent sound and has accurate intonation. It's a low-cost instrument that has an internal pickup (rare on a mando) and qualifies as a 'cheapy' but seems to be appropriate for indie players. As a reference, I visited my local bluegrass vendor to compare the G9320 against the USA-made rsen models. Wood and appointments aside, the Gretsch holds up well for its price. Meanwhile, the Gretsch is no sissy. Run through a pedalboard with production and boutique pedals the sound is clean and full for stage and recording. Acoustically it's need to baby it; when it gets beaten up while jammin' out in the paddock just buy another one!

Very Happy

Comments about Gretsch Guitars G9320 New Yorker Deluxe Acoustic-Electric Mandolin:

I am relatively new to the mandolin, but I absolutely love this little guy! The matte finish is amazing and the simplistic design is refreshing. It's edgy and classic at the same time. I love the vintage typography on the head too. It plays very well.

I am giving it 4 stars and not 5 due to the following MINOR complaints:
• When I received it, I experienced a rattling noise that I quickly tracked down to a loose pick guard. Tightening it fixed the problem.
• I LOVE the simple design (no visible pickup and no knobs) but I miss having a volume control on the instrument itself sometimes. I favor its simplicity over the knobs, so this isn't technically a true complaint!
• There are very minor black blemishes underneath the strings on the body itself.

I was able to pick it up when it was on sale, so for the money, I am very happy with the mandolin!

Comments about Gretsch Guitars G9320 New Yorker Deluxe Acoustic-Electric Mandolin:

Bought one of these at my local GC in Killeen, Texas. It was a used model, but the asst. manager I deal with for stringed instruments knew the guy that had sold it to the store as a professional player who took great care of his instruments. It showed. I found this mandolin to be consistent with rich sound. Plugged in it was also true to the acoustic sound, only amplified. I run mine thru an "Acoustic A20" amp when playing in our biker church praise band, and the congregation loves the mandolin sound as it accompanies the normal guitars and drums. I love that it stays consistent and stays in tune for long periods in spite of our weird Central Texas weather. The fact that mine was a package deal with a strap and Road Runner ABS hard case for about $200.00 was a no-brainer! While I ditched the thin mandolin strap for a 2 inch model, the case protects and carries all my needs. Best buy I've made in quite a while. Love mine! Thanks Vincent!

Comments about Gretsch Guitars G9320 New Yorker Deluxe Acoustic-Electric Mandolin:

It's not a brand new mandolin like it was advertised. The pick guard shows sign of heavily used with scratchs and marks. Otherwise, everything else is intact and it has a good tone. It would be better if it has the volume and tone control knobs installed ! Anyway, the price is cheap, and it's better than average mandolin.... so i will keep it.
