Comments about Gretsch Guitars G6120SSU Brian Setzer Nashville Semi-Hollow Electric Guitar:
Tried a used Setzer Nashville and really liked the tone and feel, but couldn't get past the bright orange color--vintage look or not. Then Gretsch introduced this updated ebony model and I was sold. Looks awesome. Black gloss coat, white binding and dice knobs? Fuggedaboudit. Most of all it plays great. I'm a big fan of the Setzer signature TV Jones pickups, which along with the bracing and pinned bridge produce some amazing sustain and solid-body tone for a wood box. The tone is clear and consistent from 1st to 6th string. Not reedy or thin at the high end, or dull and muddy at the low end. Super slick. It's custom made for a big rockabilly or twangy country sound (the tremolo is a breeze and the locking tuners seem to keep the strings tight). Good voice for smooth, liquidy jazz sounds. What really surprised me was how well the guitar holds up with any amount of gain and distortion. No feedback issues. It roars. Haven't seen that with any other hollow body. Maybe not what you want for modern metal, but I get some great sizzling blues and crunchy rock tones from the guitar. I hesitated over the price, but now I feel that I've got a verstile quality instrument and it was worth the extra dime. I highly recommend this one.
