Overview

The double-cutaway G5622T-CB Electromatic Center-Block Electric Guitar features "That Great Gretsch Sound" with the "center-block advantage." The interior solid spruce center block running the length of the guitar's 1-¾"-deep thinline-style body makes for a lively "high gain-friendly" tone and delivers greater control over the kind of feedback players want. The three new dual-coil Super HiLo'Tron pickups are voiced to produce a clean, high-end sparkle with robust low-end, low-noise performance, along with versatile pickup switching.

Other premium features include five-ply maple body construction with a bound arched top and back, bound "cat's eye" sound holes and a bound maple neck. The G5622T-CB also has a 12.5"-radius rosewood fingerboard with 21 medium jumbo frets and Neo-Classic "thumbnail" inlays, three-way neck/bridge pickup switching with two-way auxiliary switching (middle pickup on/off), single-ply black pickguard with Gretsch logo, five "G-arrow" control knobs (volume for each pickup, master tone for bridge and middle pickups, master volume), anchored Adjusto-matic bridge and flat-handle Bigsby-licensed B70 vibrato, Grover tuners and knurled strap retainer knobs. Case sold separately.

I really enjoy playing this guitar, it has a very wide range of tone and character. I am a hobbyist when it comes to guitars and I have a little collection going. Saw this guitar across the guitar area when i walked into GC (Oxnard) and knew I had to try it out. Spent a hour or so playing around with it and knew it had to come home with me. That was about a year ago and now it is my go to guitar. I love the variety of sounds i can get with it and the build is pretty solid. I am sure there are better electronic set ups on more expensive models, but this one is great for me - might change out the switches and phono plug eventually (if they wear out). The finish is beautiful and it surprised me that this was made overseas. I prefer American made goods, however I can't afford the higher end Gretsch beauties at this time. This model has even survived nicely with my toddler kids "helping" me play. The main thing always comes down to the sound, and this guitar makes me extremely happy. I would buy another in a heart beat.
I was on the lookout for a nice guitar and I am glad I found this one, it's a keeper!

This was the BEST feeling guitar I had ever had in my hands. Fit and finish were flawless and probably even better than my Gibson LP. The neck was thin and fast, frets were level and smooth. The binding was on par with any American made guitar I've played. I hit a huge bend on the G string and it stated in tune (always a fear of mine with 3+3 headstocks). I loved everything about it, especially the color. Went home. Checked for a coupon, and ordered it.

Got it home, plugged in, excited to test out all the tones I could get.

And... the middle pup didn't do anything. Turned it on, volume all the way up... no change in tone... turned it off.... no change in tone. So then I tried to isolate JUST the middle by turning it on and all the way up and turning the bridge and/or neck pup all the way down... no sound. Turned them ALL on and all the way up.... tried rolling the middle pup off to see if I could hear ANY tonal difference... And what happens when you turn down the middle PUP volume when ANY of the other pups are on? The middle pup volume serves as a second MASTER volume and the WHOLE thing turns off. what? Why would I need two master volumes? What would be wrong with just adjusting middle pup volume while pumping up the neck or bridge?? It makes no sense... so I figured it was just broken and under warranty, so no big deal, right?

Took it to GC like... "hey, maybe I don't understand... can you show me how to adjust the volume of the middle pup and/or make the middle pup make any tonal difference at all?" Guy plugged in and it totally bewildered him for 5 minutes. So they pulled another one off the shelf and tested it... and it was configured the same way.... middle pup didn't do anything and the middle volume was just a secondary master volume. This model does not allow for any middle only option and maybe there's a really good reason that i don't understand, but to me, a simple 5 way switch would have made it perfect. Returned on the spot.

Comments about Gretsch Guitars G5622T Electromatic Center Block Semi-Hollow Electric Guitar:

One mark of a great guitar is when it sounds great unplugged. This guitar sings even without an amp.
The neck is perfect, the hardware is solid and the pickups are great too. They are a little hotter than my other cateye gretsch and I like that. The bigsby is awesome and stays in tune. I also get tons of compliments on the looks of this one. Don't think twice - buy it!

Had to have the toggle switches rewired, not turning on the proper pickups. Volume pots for bridge and mid pickup are either on or off...no gradual volume. Tone pot changes not noticeable at all. I've had two other Electromatics and had similar issues. A friend just bought this same guitar and having same issues.

I bought this guitar after considering a usa fender tele or a lower end les paul. I love the way it sounds plugged in but the way it sounds unpluged is pretty incredible really. The components all seem pretty nice but the tone pots dont really do much and the plug was loose when I got it, that was why the 4 stars. I will replace the tone pots and I leave the pickup volume pots maxed anyway so they dont matter much. The master volume knob is a great thing when I playing in my apartment, it lets me turn it down when the neighbors bang on the walls :)

Comments about Gretsch Guitars G5622T Electromatic Center Block Semi-Hollow Electric Guitar:

This is a really handsome guitar that makes some real pretty sounds. The three pickups give a much greater range of tones and I'm surprised the middle pup has been removed for this year's edition. The cat's eye sound hole, which is somewhat unique in the Gretsch stable, has also been replaced by a more traditional f-hole this year. Needless to say, I'm glad I caught the tail-end of the 2016 model before stock dried up. As much as I'd like to pretend that looks don't matter, I have to admit that I consider most of my guitars to be works of art as much as they are musical instruments. I bought my Ric 360 simply because I couldn't take my eyes off of it! The G5622T ranks up there with some of the best in terms of style.
The set-up, straight out of the box, was spot-on and after a quick tune-up I was trying all of the pup combos. I'd previously read a review complaining about the inability to isolate the middle pickup and it seems that if any of the volume pots are turned all the way down, you effectively short the main signal line to ground to you need to have at least a tad of volume on any selected pickups. I did find a reworked wiring schematic, on one of the Gretsch forums, that would prevent this but it isn't that important to me to start ripping things apart, at least not yet.
Despite owning quite a few 6 strings and bass guitars, the width of the fretboard caught me by surprise and it took me a while to recalibrate my finger placement. Despite excellent action I just kept on missing strings. My other problem is that I like somewhere to anchor my plucking hand and this guitar doesn't offer much. I keep semi-muting the strings as I rest my hand on the bridge and it starts to wander. I'm sure I'll work it out in the end.
I don't intend to review the sound as you can find countless videos online of other folk using this versatile guitar for all kinds of music and a variety of playing styles.
In short, I'm happy with the purchase and she's definitley a keeper...!

Have a vintage 1981 Gibson SG firebrand deluxe that I bought new as a kid , and learning to play "for real" now with the Gibson Learn and Master system with Steve Krenz, a pro studio guy. Best way to play period. But to do all the rest of the course, I needed an axe than can do it all at a modest price. All I can say is this thing is the BOMB! Looks way too cool, quality and sound is impeccable (compared it to a 3k to 4k instrument. cannot see any difference other that it costs 8 to ten times more!) and plays all types of sounds and music with one guitar! I play everything from Zep to Sabbath to mellow acoustic. Bought mine in Georgia Green (photos don't do it justice) last week, and the sound and the color! absolutely SHIMMERS. From what I understand, it is has been discontinued, and the only one left are store demos. It's being replaced by one that has f-holes instead of the way cool "cat eye" ones on this beauty and no center pickup. I like this version better The f-holes in my opinion make it look like a big violin, but it's a guitar guys, not a violin. I got mine at the West Springfield MA store as a store demo, but it had just been opened to replace the blemished demo someone just bought, so essentially new without the box to toss out. Great people! One review here gave 1 star for the electronics, but once you know what the controls do, it's very intuitive to use. Just sounds like they didn't take the time to learn how to use them. A lot of online demos show the controls functions and abilities. A future classic, get one before they are all gone!

I play small venues and this one guitar takes me from beatles to zepplin to jazz and blues . I usually have my new guitars set up , but this played perfect from the minute i pulled off the wall. It took less than hour to know this was leaving with me! Iv'e bought the pro jet as well and had the same good luck. Gretsch makes a solid instrument, for the price and would recomend this model to everyone who plays multiple styles.

Fantastic guitar. Kudo's to Guitar Center...guitar and case arrived three days after placing the order as advertised.

Unpacked the G5622T, tuned it up (it wasn't far out of tune out of the box), and plugged it in. Everything was functional and the action is great.. Great sound... the three pickups give it a lot of sound options even with my old Crate amp.

Can't say enough about the Rosa Red color...the pictures don't do it justice.

Couldn't be happier with the purchase.

Excellent craftsmanship, great Gretsch sound. I did not find a use for the middle pickup and found it to be a little "in the way", so I returned the guitar and bought the G5620T. Same great sound and craftsmanship. If I had not been able to get the G5620T I would never have let this one go. Excellent cost to value ratio. Buy one, I don't think you will regret the purchase.

Comments about Gretsch Guitars G5622T Electromatic Center Block Semi-Hollow Electric Guitar:

Congratulations you spineless, copy-catting millenial hacks; you all have killed one of the coolest guitars ever made! This review is for the rest of you; the talented, studied, versatile local players, the working musicians that will define the next generation of music.

I bought this guitar in August of 2016. Together with the case it ran about a grand. It is a professional-grade instrument, especially for someone who doesn't want to bust a $3000+ Country Gent while playing bars and so on. This guitar is Gretsch's interpretation of a Gibson ES-335/355, arguably the most versatile guitar ever produced. You can stack vinyl to the moon that was recorded with those guitars. The Gretsch adds a mid pickup, which means it can also sound like a Strat. What more can you ask for?

The smaller Streamliners with Bigsbys are amateur, delicate guitars. Knobs fall off of them in the store. Practically everything on them requires upgrading, which is why they are cheaper to buy, BUT MORE EXPENSIVE TO OWN.

This 5622 I have, the only thing I did to it is run the strings over the top of the Bigsby idler bar. This is the way the guitar should have shipped. The responsiveness is night-and-day, and the thing will do full bends without coming off of the bridge. The guitars that need the strings underneath are hollow bodies with floating bridges.

Some specifics on the Hi-Lo-Tron pickups. My understanding is that the Gibson PAFs are wired in series, whereas the Gretsch Filtertrons are wired in parallel. PAFs have a lot more grit, Filtertrons have "chime" and good treble fidelity. The Hi-Lo-Trons I think are wired in series, like a standard humbucker, but they are still tall and narrow like a Filtertron, and like a Telecaster pickup. They are hot enough to drive a tube amp and get that ES "growl," but still startlingly clear for a humbucker.

I can nail the Skynyrd tone, along with a Peavey "Series" amp or a small amount of pedal fuzz. On a semi-hollow body!

Great guitar all around, tone, feel and a little weightier than most hollow bodies. The only problem I had was the stock strap locks slid right out and stripped the hole and luckily I caught it from falling. Easy fix was going with Schaller strap locked the screw was wider enough to catch the wood and hold, other than that the guitar is amazing!

Just an update to my other review here. I've just traded in the 1981 Gibson SG to the West Springfield store last week. I have had this guitar for 2 weeks, and I haven't played the Gibson since, (don't get me wrong, the SG is a iconic guitar, great in it's own way). This Gretsch however really does do it all! I don't need a guitar collection, (some comments remark on all the different guitars they have, maybe they just need 1 guitar like this to replace all those others!) The money I got in trade for the SG basically paid for this Gretsch! Now the greatest guitar out there is even better! Essentially I got it for free! A unique instrument, even for a Gretsch. The Beatles "Get Back" sound amazing on this! (George Harrison actually played a Gretsch when they made their first appearance on Ed Sullivan, and found out Pete Townsend recorded "Who's Next" and "Quadrophenia" with a Gretsch, Jimmy Page did a lot of studio work with them too! Whooo Nuuuu?!

Comments about Gretsch Guitars G5622T Electromatic Center Block Semi-Hollow Electric Guitar:

One benefit of the middle pickup is it allows Stratocaster-style "out-of-phase" tones. This pickup has its own switch and Volume control, and the neck and bridge pickups also have dedicated Volume knobs. A master Tone control operates only on the bridge and neck pickups. This setup provides a wide variety of sounds, although turning off any one Volume knob shuts down the whole shebang, making it impossible to use the middle pickup by itself. Within the range offered, though, there are many cool sounds to be found here that cover styles from roots to heavy rock.

FYI, as of April 25th, there are ZERO Georgia Green models in stock at the distribution center! If you order online you could get a store demo model sold as if it were new in box! CALL BEFORE YOU ORDER!
The guitar itself is really nice though. It sounds great clean or dirty. I had some initial issues with fret buzz but I suspect that had something to do with the fact that my guitar was shipped from a store and not the warehouse and had obviously been out of the box and played. This is my fist semi-hollow body. All my other guitars are Strat type (Fender or Schecter). The neck is thicker but still very playable. All the components are good quality.
Fair warning, this thing has such good and varied sound that you may want to upgrade your amp! After three days I ordered a Vox VT40 to replace my little Line 6 practice amp!
