Comments about Gretsch Guitars G5435T Electromatic Pro Jet w/Bigsby Electric Guitar:

I had played the one in the store every week for a month and decided I should get it. When I opened it up at home, I noticed a lot of buzz on the G-string (string action was the culprit). The folks at Guitar Center, however, made it really easy to get a new one for the same price. We also got the Pro Coverage so we could get a free setup. I hope the replacement is better... :)

I had to send this guitar back due to problems with the volume/tone control wiring. However, the guitar did seem well built and finished, and was comfortable to play.

Comments about Gretsch Guitars G5435T Electromatic Pro Jet w/Bigsby Electric Guitar:

Guitar plays like a more expensive axe. Pickups are great. I always replace stock pickups, not these. Filtertrons cut through the mix but still have lots of warmth. Can't say enough about the Bigsby. Owned a Floyd-Rose equipped guitar and never connected with that style vibrato. The Bigsby B5 is super intuitive. It's not as extreme as the FR but rock n roll/rockabilly pour out of it. I own quite few quality guitars, the Pro Jet has a vibe unlike any of the others. Get to a store and try one out!

I have been playing for three years, so I'm still learning. This guitar has a great price for someone looking to add to their guitar collection. The semi-hollow body with vibrato gives some added dimensions for playing. I have an interest in instrumentals (especially surf music) and this guitar is allowing me to put the right touches on the music! I was impressed with it's set up right out of the box.

I had a budget of 800 dollars and tried basically every guitar in guitar center for this price and this guitar was by far my favorite. The pickups are amazing they have very warm and vibrant feeling to them but they also make this guitar very versatile. you can play blues all the way to classic rock and even a little metal. looks great, i chose the black one because i like a more conservative guitar but the gold top looks amazing as well. This is without a doubt my favorite guitar to play Rhythm on. Lead might be hard considering the frets get extremely and I mean extremely small 17-22. But other than that this guitar is a dream!

Comments about Gretsch Guitars G5435T Electromatic Pro Jet w/Bigsby Electric Guitar:

This guitar is hands down the best Gretsch for the money , as far as the vibrato being to close , it's because you are noy suppose to go crazy with any bigbsy , they dont have the spring system to support that. and the pickups are like a flashback from chuck berry days, and sound great. This thing can cover any music you want to play, and if you are a non-believer , well go to your local music shop and take it for a ride. I think you will see my side of it. I have not tuned mine all night and acually just checked and all strings are a little sharp. Bigsby to close my butt! BUY IT!

                The honeymoon is over

                By jay vinton

                from Honolulu, Hawaii

Comments about Gretsch Guitars G5435T Electromatic Pro Jet w/Bigsby Electric Guitar:

I've had a goldtop G-5435T or 38 as the color indicates for 6 months. In that time, several things have come to issue: Tuning stability is iffy. To be expected with a bigsby equipped guitar, but at least one tuner has excess play in it and doesn't give a feeling of secure tuning. Bigsby operation. The B-50 unit is too close to the bridge, the sharp angle from down roller bar to the bridge saddle eliminates most all passive and gentle vibrato due to the tightness and use of a ToM bridge, when it should have a roller or bar bridge. I string mine OVER the down bar to give it a more Bigsby feel and that works while still keeping the strings in the saddles. The guitar does not like Hi Gain, it will buzz like a banshee in an ungrounded, touch the guitar, it goes away type of buzz. Remove the gain and the effect goes away, not much good if you are a gain player. And it tells me that internally, something is amiss. All appears good visually, but that still leaves lots of room for error. Fit and finish are superb. No glue marks, great joint appearance, smooth, nice goldtop finish. The "mahogany" back is almost black, I would have rathered a real mahogany finish that let the grain show through. Output jack continually loosens, not good on an almost 6 bones guitar. Other than that, the guitar is very nice for an import, but they really need to solve several geometric issues such as the Bigsby placement, and use of a ToM bridge with a bigsby. It is very very versatile. The real gems of the guitar are the volume knobs which completely overshadow the almost useless Master tone knob. Using the two very sensitive volume knobs will yield many inbetween and different tones. Overall, a good guitar with still a bit of engineering to be done to be perfect.

                Gretsch projet goldtop

                By jay vinton

                from Honolulu Hawaii

Comments about Gretsch Guitars G5435T Electromatic Pro Jet w/Bigsby Electric Guitar:

I usually will review after a couple of months of ownership. I've had the gold top now for 5 months. I was almost leery to take it out for fear of the bling factor. I'm more of a vanilla strat kind of guy. But to the guitar, it takes a bit of getting used to, especially the control layout, but once you master that, you have a fantastic array of tones to draw from. For an import, this is a very highly crafted guitar. Everything screams quality construction and fit. My only clam was that the input jack was loose upon getting it home. Past that, nothing at all is out of order or out of line in this model. The filtertrons are not single or hummer sounding, somewhere inbetween with fantastic jangle and chime in the bridge and a very nice neck that can jazz it up pretty quick. The Bigsby is an issue however. It is more than slightly unresponsive. The placement puts it too close to the bridge and the break angle from the roller to the bridge is sharp and dampens the movement quite a bit. In future models, if they would use a v style bigsby mounted about 4 inches back, it would greatly enhance the use of the bigsby. The neck is pretty chunky, I have a Wide/fat neck PRS that is very comfortable to play, but this profile is a bit larger and I have trouble making some thumb over chords at different positions. Folks with larger and longer fingers should have no issue however. It states that the back is mahogany with a brown stain, however on the goldtop, it's more black than brown, I would prefer the brown as I have seen it on Powerjets and it's stunning. Overall, for the money you spend, you are not getting an amateur guitar. Through a Hot rod Deluxe, this thing is crushing. It has lots of growl, lots of chime, lots of jangle dependent on where you have the 3 way set and the remainder of the knobs set. The "Tone" knob only seems to affect the bridge pickup and past a certain point lowers volume, a treble bleed circuit would solve that but if you don't like icepick tele style sounding leads, you can quickly dial them out. Overall, it's a beauty, plays fantastic, and with a little practice and study of the layout, you can generate fine tones.
