My first Gretsch, and IMO the best value on Gretsch guitars ,ever !! Totally stunning in White with gold hardware. That Gretsch twang and spanky sound at this price point is incredible. Neck is wonderful and easy to play. Will switch strings to either 11s or flat rounds to get creamier sound.Thought I would have to put TV Jones pick ups on , but not necessary, these Filtertrons are great.and very hot. Master volume tone circuit is great.Too bad ,no case comes with it,but did get one at great discount and has GRETSCH imprinted , fits like a glove.Got a great deal at GC with coupon, best price in the country. I am basically a Fender and Gibson guy, but this ax is in a class by itself.I just sit and stair at it all the time. To me sounds as good as more expensive Gretsches. Can not say anything negative ,here ,this beast ROCKS big time. White ones ,hard to find and I got lucky ;but the Fairlane Blue and Orange are gorgeous also., Aspen green also looks great.Get one , you will be happy !

Came in yesterday and played this for awhile. Almost walked out with it except I noticed a buzz coming from the rhythm pickup. When I pointed this out to the kid that worked there he said it was the guitar's "resonance." Well, I've been playing 32 years, and I think I know a buzz when I hear one. If you press on the top of the p/u the buzz will abate. The guitar tech was working 15 feet away from this conversation, but there was no offer to fix the buzz or even have the tech look at it. Otherwise I would give this 4 stars.

Classy Hollowbody

By Robert

Comments about Gretsch Guitars G5420T Electromatic Hollowbody Electric Guitar:

I am a pastor, and I play this guitar in church. I've had it for about 6 months now, so the rush of a new guitar is gone, and I can give an uncolored review. First of all, I know that loving the look of a guitar is subjective, I can say that every time I play this guitar I get comments on how great it looks. Now on the the important part: The Black Top FilterTrons really give this guitar that little bit of Gretsch twang. I had the G5120, and liked it, but it lacked the classic Gretsch twang. Once I heard the Black Top Filtertrons on this guitar definitely made the G5120 expendable. I didn't want to be overcome by this guitar, so I played a few of hollowbodies at the GC in Cool Springs, TN. One in particular had serious feedback issues, where this Gretsch did not have that problem at all. I understand this has to due with the overall resonance of the guitar, but this Gretsch sounds full without the feedback problem. Other important factors are that the bridge on this guitar is pinned, so it is less prone having the bridge buzz (as happened with some G5120's), the neck is comfortable and smooth, the binding on the top and bottom of the body, f-holes, and neck is a nice ivory color and looks good against the white finish. Lastly, the Bigsby vibrato is not something I need for what I play in the church, but it's a nice touch when I'm just playing for me around the house. Overall, the look, the feel, and the sound of this guitar is excellent. For the price, you can't go wrong, but get it fast, because this white one is not one of the standard offers in the G5420 lineup, so it will soon be gone.

Very Nice!

By George

Comments about Gretsch Guitars G5420T Electromatic Hollowbody Electric Guitar:

"Very nice" refers not only to this fine guitar, but also to GC and Gretsch customer service. The guitar is sweet, great action and pickups. Plays and sounds as good as it looks, and stays in tune even w Bigsby use. (I've been playing for some 50 years.) When I bought the guitar at GC Ocala, the gold toggle-switch tip was missing. It's been only about seven days now, and a new gold switch tip (along w the entire switch itself!) just arrived via FedEx from Gretsch (Fender) at no charge. This is outstanding customer service from both GC (thanks Jacob!) and Gretsch (Fender). I highly recommend this guitar, Jacob at GC Ocala, FL and Fender. A guitar this nice and customer service this good should be noticed and appreciated. Great stuff all around!

Comments about Gretsch Guitars G5420T Electromatic Hollowbody Electric Guitar:

I bought one of these brand new from the store. I took it home and unboxed it and it was flawless from top to bottom. The pictures do not show very well, but it has a binding on front and back of the body that are a milky white color that make it look even better. I just so happened to have band rehearsal the same night, so i plugged it in and tried it out. I ended up playing it the entire night, with the strings and set up it came with. It sounded amazing (through my AC15) and felt so easy to play. I own a les paul standard and two teles, and this thing is right up there with the les paul in build quality. I just couldn't get over how solid it felt (i was expecting less being it was a hollowbody). So far I am super pleased with the purchase and the white on gold looks absolutely beautiful. I was expecting a lot of feedback issues at rehearsal, but it was minimal even with my tubescreamer cranked.

Comments about Gretsch Guitars G5420T Electromatic Hollowbody Electric Guitar:

I use this guitar to write and demo songs.

The guitar looks absolutely awesome. It feels awesome, once you get it set up. The stock pickups aren't really that bad. I like the way it sounds running through a Fender Twin Reverb.

The only problem that I have with mine is, I can't get it to stay in tune. The nut that comes with it is just some shot piece of plastic. The tuning machines are really cheap as well. It took replacing both of those things to make it really come alive.

I bought this guitar brand new from a dealer. They checked it out and set it up before it left the store. After I got it home, I used it unplugged for about 8 weeks since it has a great acoustic sound. When I went to plug it in, nothing! I peered into it with a flashlight and everything appears to be connected properly but no sound. I've never had this happen before not even with a cheap Squire guitar. Now I have to contact warranty repair and have it fixed. I'm not happy about that.

I play in a country band and some of the more traditional country music that we play sounds absolutely fantastic on this guitar!! We jazz up some of the older songs such as Kansas City, and this guitar really does shine!!! The buttery smooth tone and the warmth and fullness of the sound is absolutely astounding. I had never played a Gretsch guitar before, now I wonder how I got along without it!

Comments about Gretsch Guitars G5420T Electromatic Hollowbody Electric Guitar:

I was in my area Guitar Center selling some guitars, when I saw a white and gold Gretsch on the wall. I played it while they were doing the numbers, and it came hoe with me when I left as part of the deal.
I owned a '60's Tennessean and this blows it away for quality build and sound. GREAT fingerboard, fast neck, solid build and sounds just fine. The pickups are sensitive to height adjustment, so you can tailor them to the sound you want. Like this so much, I got another one a month later, in Orange...
I am a former bar band musician from the '60's and '70's. My other guitars are mostly Gibsons.

It is gorgeous, got the black with gold hardware. Not a gold hardware guy, but this thing wears it well. The neck feels really good, love the little vibro swirl you can make with the Bigsby. Had some tuning stability issues out of the box. Got a setup and the nut and now its stable. The BT Filter Tron's are smooth and middy. It has a soft sound quality that will be good for jazz/blues. You can dial it up for some more sparkle, but that smooth mud is its forte. I see a lot of people switch to TV Jones, I think I might do the same as I have a more sparkly ear. I wish they would include a case, its an additional $100-120 for the case. It has "that thing" that makes you want to play it. The tone, the feel, the sound its all its own. Highly recommend for a person that wants a Gretsch, but has trouble with that 61-series price tag. You won't be disappointed in the "budget" version. I got the G6241FT case and its a nice a snug fit.
