Overview

Big, bold and righteous, the G2420 Streamliner Single Cutaway Hollowbody is designed for the modern guitarist who yearns for something beyond the norm. A commanding guitar for powerful players, the G2420's modern sonics, updated electronics and authentically elegant style create the latest iteration of That Great Gretsch Sound.

The secret to the Streamliners sound is a new offering from Gretsch: the BroadTron humbucking pickup. Specifically designed by the expert engineers at Gretsch for the Streamliner, this high-output pickup spawns robust lows, pristine highs and a throaty midrange for a unique tone that blends well with other instruments in a band context. This sonic power is harnessed and shaped by the traditional control layout, neck and bridge pickup volume controls, a master tone control, master volume control and three-way pickup switching.

A fast-playing 12-radius rosewood fingerboard with elegant pearloid block inlays and 22 medium jumbo frets sits atop the white-bound nato neck with a thin U-shaped profile ideal for chord work or firing off speedy riffs. Enjoy rock-solid tuning stability courtesy of the stylish Gretsch chromatic tailpiece, Adjusto-matic bridge with secured rosewood base and synthetic bone nut. Parallel tone bars reinforce the top, allowing free vibration for familiar hollowbody tone while providing a strong, balanced voice.

All the classic eye-catching style you've come to expect from Gretsch is here: vintage-style gold control knobs, F holes, elegant two-ply white and black body binding, slick-looking nickel hardware, arched laminated maple construction and single-ply black pickguard with Gretsch logo. Nearly impossible to put down once you pick it up and start playing, the G2420 Streamliner Single Cutaway Hollowbody is an astounding take on the authentic sound and classic style you've come to expect from Gretsch.

Go Play This Guitar!

Comments about Gretsch Guitars G2420 Streamliner Single Cutaway Hollowbody:

I typically only buy and play American Gibson and PRS guitars. However, this Indonesian-made Gretsch has quickly become my favorite guitar in recent memory. The quality is unbelievable at this price point. I played an ES-335 recently with a heavy heart because I knew I couldn't justify spending another 3 grand anytime soon. I tried the 335 Studio and was not impressed. The other day I saw the Streamliner hanging in the corner. I saw that it didn't have a Bigsby like most Gretsch guitars so I took a chance and 20 minutes later I left with it. This guitar plays like butter. Action is as low as it gets and no buzzing. Intonation's perfect on every string, every fret. Stays in tune as well as or better than any guitar I've had. Fretwork is absolutely perfect. Looking down the neck, frets are more consistent and neater than my last 4 or 5 Gibsons. It has a very rich, complex, balanced tone. Pickups are warm but never muddy, bright but never shrill or thin. Similar to P90s but, to my ears, more personality if that makes sense. Resonates and sustains like only a true hollow body can. There's just something about plugging this in. The marriage of the guitar's natural acoustic properties and those pickups...it's just magical. It's much more gratifying than a semi-hollow. There are just so many facets to the tones being produced. Anyways, if you're considering a hollow or semi-hollow, do yourself a solid and sit down with one of these. I don't care what you're used to playing, this guitar WILL surprise and inspire you. So glad I stumbled upon one. I couldn't ask for more from a guitar.

Comments about Gretsch Guitars G2420 Streamliner Single Cutaway Hollowbody:

I saw this when it came out and played it, I was very impressed. Anyway so one day I was down there picking up a little Yamaha Classical I had on lay away and asked the sales person if he had one in the box, he didn't but said he could order it and have it shipped to my door. The deal was amazing considering I had coupons and I got it out the door and shipped for under $400...stunning for the guitar you receive. I was blown away, the sound is unreal and the neck feels perfect.....already set up out of the box. This is perhaps the best guitar I have ever had and I have had a few. Do yourself a favor and pick one one, this is the real deal!!

Incredible guitar for the money

By Michael

from Itasca IL

Comments about Gretsch Guitars G2420 Streamliner Single Cutaway Hollowbody:

I was browsing the guitar center showroom while my guitar was being serviced. While picking up and playing several guitars, I spotted this gretch. It looked amazing but wasn't expecting much due to the low price point. I immediately fell in love with it after strumming a few chords. I was further impressed after plugging her in. The pups offered a nice single coil sound. One could easily expect to pay 3-4 times as much if it were manufactured domestically. Fit, finish and hardware all exceed expectations for a guitar in this price range.

They had a new one in stock and I went home with it. I don't like purchasing floor models that have been touched by every Van Halen wanna be. Been playing it unplugged. Beautiful warm tone. Do yourself a favor and play one. I guarantee you will take one home as well.

Comments about Gretsch Guitars G2420 Streamliner Single Cutaway Hollowbody:

I went to GC looking to buy a new practice amp and walked out with this guitar instead. What I loved the most, were the pickups. The BroadTrons have their own sound not "That Great Gretsch Sound" from years ago, but a new sound and "throaty" is about the best word as stated in the description. I got over trying to make guitars sound like something they're not many years ago and look very hard to find guitars that sound great on their own with their own character and to me this is one of those, in fact Gretsch in general is very good at making guitars that sound very different from every other Strat and Paul player. I played all the guitars in the Streamliner series and this combo is something special. Perfect action and a little intonation adjustment, new strings, and I've been playing happily even since. I still can believe what great guitars can be bought in this price range, it's a great time to be a musician. Big thumbs up to all the guys at the Flint, MI store.

    Love it !!

Comments about Gretsch Guitars G2420 Streamliner Single Cutaway Hollowbody:

I had been wanting a hollow body to compliment my collection, do not have the funds for most of the previously available guitars.
Played on of these while in the Ft Wayne store and was greatly impressed. I didn't buy one that day.
On a return visit to the store I again picked it up and started playing. I did not leave the store without it that day.
The finish is flawless, the set up was spot on. The intonation was good and overall playability was, in a word, outstanding.
The pickups provide a wide diversity of tonality, from distorted to great blues and jazz tones.
One of my best guitar purchases. A great value.
GC sales staff, Steve, was great to work with, very helpful.

Comments about Gretsch Guitars G2420 Streamliner Single Cutaway Hollowbody:

One day, I bought two guitars at my local Guitar Center; the Gretsch and a Fender American Strat. Obviously different guitars, but I truly enjoy and play my Gretsch more than the Fender, as great as it is. The tone is great, easy to play, and absolutely beautiful. I used to own a Gibson 175, and I would highly recommend this Gretsch especially for the price.

Comments about Gretsch Guitars G2420 Streamliner Single Cutaway Hollowbody:

I just bought this guitar. I have a Joe Pass (which I love) & just got rid of my Triple pick-up Rivera. (P-90s) I love my Joe Pass but it won't handle EVERYTHING & has fewer frets. The Gretsch G5420 Streamliner does it ALL jazz to rock & everything in between. The pickups are like P-90s with NO 60 cycle hum. Compared it with an Epi Wildkat (P-90s hum & all) & the Gretsch left it in the shade on ALL counts. The Broadtron pickups are NOT the standard Gretsch jangley fair. The only thing Gretsch about this guitar is the excellent Gretsch build & quality. Also, I COULD easily put a Bigsby B60 on it for $60 USD but you couldn't GIVE me $160 to do that. Gretsch hit the lick on this model ax. BELIEVE that a yr from now it will list for $200 more. It will cut thru ANY mix, don't feed back & the pick-ups & switching is PERFECT. Smooth as silk & loud. Handles pedals BIG TIME as well. Put in some earbuds & check the badd assed Lady out. (Y) ♪♪♪♪

Comments about Gretsch Guitars G2420 Streamliner Single Cutaway Hollowbody:

I have two entry level Schecters and an old classical guitar. Been playing 3 years, and I'm getting into more complex chords and def felt like it was time to get a guitar upgrade. Was looking at the Sheraton, Epiphone Florentine, Les Paul pro, Ibanez Artcore but this Gretsch just felt perfect in my hands. It has replaced all three of my other gutiars as it contains aspects I like of all of them. I love my classical's wider neck, and being able to practice unplugged and play fingerstyle at ease without accidentally hitting other strings. It allows me to mess with my tone with pedals like I do with my electrics. For me, it is an ideal guitar for me.
