For the price, the Gretch G2202 Electromatic Junior Jet is an amazing bass. First the down-side... Well, it has a few construction issues, like slightly unevan gaps around the neck joint. I don't know if that means it will have some long-term problems, but I've had this bass for about a year, and it's doing quite well. The sound, for a one-pickup, shortscale bass, it really impressive. That one pickup delivers a serious punch and, with the tone rolled all the way up, it can even get a convincing "My Generation" twang. Rolled back, it can sound very warm and jazzy. Like all shortscale basses, the E-string can be a bit muddy with the tone all the way back, but that has more to do with the nature of short instruments and slack strings than with the design of this instrument. The finish is good -- great in some respects -- though some of the frets were a bit rough at the ends. And it looks good. I really can't think of anything else in its pricepoint that comes close in sound. The Fender Mustang Bass maybe -- but for more than twice the price.

I bought this bass at my local GC along with a acoustic 260 mini half stack, when i got home everything was going great i was loving the look and feel of this bass and then all of a sudden i went to raise the pick up i turned the screwdriver 1 millimeter and the pickup fell into the guitar i took a look at the pickup and the hole on the bottom of the pick up where the spring and screw go was totally stripped i was disappointed by the cheapness of this especially because gretsch is a pretty respectable brand anyway i traded this bass in for a squier full size jazz bass how ever i would recommend getting this bass its has a great look and feel just dont mess around with the pickup!

Amazing Bass

By Aaron

Comments about Gretsch Guitars G2202 Electromatic Junior Jet Bass Guitar:

I bought this guitar just yesterday and about 20 minutes later i did a gig with it! People kept coming up to me saying that it sounded really full. Then i plugged it into my home amp, and i was AMAZED! It only has 1 Pickup but gives the highest sound quality available for a bass. Plus, im a smaller person so switching from my regular bass to this shortscale one was great! I definately reccomend this! It's easy to play, and has great sound!

WOW!

By dakinschultz

Comments about Gretsch Guitars G2202 Electromatic Junior Jet Bass Guitar:

I am a self-taught bass player and ive been playing for close to two years now. This is the second bass ive owned and it is AWESOME! Im a small person who learned to play on a normal 34in neck but when I went shopping i wanted somthing a little more comfortable to me. Both the basses Ive had are shortscale and ive done much research on the differences in neck length vs sound quality. I myself see no difference with this bass compared with most normal scale basses. Great quality sound with unique shape and great playabilty. The pickup is very nice as well. I fully recomend it to lovers of shortscales.

Amazing!!

Comments about Gretsch Guitars G2202 Electromatic Junior Jet Bass Guitar:

This a fantastic bass. The first bass that I've had, and I didn't appreciate it enought until I started playing it my band. Fantastic sound and great action right out of the box. Only problems I had with it was that the little nylon spacer on the G tuning key broke off, so now when I tune the string, it's rough. Other than that, it's perfect.

Rediculously Awsome!!!!!!!!

Comments about Gretsch Guitars G2202 Electromatic Junior Jet Bass Guitar:

this is my second bass. i havent had it long because i got it for christmas. This is a nasty little shortscale. i first found it in the store and i plugged it into an acoustic b100 amp and fell in love. The single mini humbucker gives off a very clean tone.its very quick and the action is great but its not the best bass for slapping. volume knob is really smooth and so is the tone knob. the short neck is very playable and quick. a uniquely designed bass with great function and amazing playability for a price that wont dig too deep into the wallet. no doubt ill be playing this bass for a long time.

Nothing Else Close in this Price Range

By ...right...

Comments about Gretsch Guitars G2202 Electromatic Junior Jet Bass Guitar:

Good set-up and fretwork - straight from the box to the studio. Modern sound. Sensible bridge mount design - tried and true screws, not push-in pegs. The manufacturing focus is obviously on the playability of the neck - exactly where it should be in this price range. Thank-you Gretsch!

Comments about Gretsch Guitars G2202 Electromatic Junior Jet Bass Guitar:

I bought this bass when i was in 7th grade just because i had been playing the upright bass in school. I bought this bass used and I sat down with it and fell in love right away. You can't go wrong with a Gretsch product. I am now a JUNIOR in highschool with 2 other basses, an Epiphone Thunderbird and a Fender Special Jazz fretless, and I always play this one the most...I love this guitar to death and will keep it forever. If you are considering buying this bass for yourself or for your child....DO IT!! you will not regret your descision.

I love this bass

By Robert R

from Oakdale, CA

Comments about Gretsch Guitars G2202 Electromatic Junior Jet Bass Guitar:

I picked it up in the store, started playing it, and couldn't put it down. I love the action of the small scale neck and the sound is great. The Gretsch pick up is solid and punchy. I've had several bass over a 40 year period and this one is my favorite. It's cool, attractive, dynamic, and fun to play. Instuments at this price don't normally play this well and sound this good.

Awesome Bass

Comments about Gretsch Guitars G2202 Electromatic Junior Jet Bass Guitar:

I got this bass a month ago. I really like it. I've been playing for four years now it's fun to play. It's hard to hit the upper frets but most bassists don't play up there. The bass sounds good. I like how the pickguard says gretsch on it. In my opinion it's a nice bass.

Comments about Gretsch Guitars G2202 Electromatic Junior Jet Bass Guitar:

This little solid body is sweet with great punch and tone.As a Hofner Beatle Bass player this Junior Jet offers the deep warmth I love with LaBella flat wounds. The intonation on this 30" scale is very good.In terms of it's construction it is very acceptable considering the cost. Overall this bass is a great value!

Comments about Gretsch Guitars G2202 Electromatic Junior Jet Bass Guitar:

A year ago I purchased a Gretsch bass guitar, 4 string, G 2202 and I am completely satisfied with the product. It is a great guitar. Easy to handle, great sound. In the future, I am planning to purchase a 5-string bass from Gretsch, 3/4 size, if there is such a model.

By Lee Elliott

Comments about Gretsch Guitars G2202 Electromatic Junior Jet Bass Guitar:

I have been playing Metal bass guitar for many years. I have used lot of different brands of basses. This guitar is just amazing! It is no bigger than a Less Paul and Packs a punch while giving you the feel of playing a normal 6 string guitar; for those of you, like me, that play guitar, That makes a big difference for me. also, it weight and great balance . I honestly would recommend this Guitar to everyone who loves playing Bass. Take a little extra time, go to the closest Guitar Center and play one for a few minutes. You will think it's awesome. Great Bass!!!

By Hugh

from Saltillo, Coahuila MX.

Comments about Gretsch Guitars G2202 Electromatic Junior Jet Bass Guitar:

I was looking for a 30" bass and had in mind a mustang bass, or a bronco bass but my friend in GC show me this retro and powerful bass, so i checked in an ampeg svt and loved it. Powerful sound, great variaton in tone, from jazzy tones to rock. Not quite good for slap, and it̴s a little uncomfortably on the right wrist, but very easy to play on the left hand. Very good for the price and the retro look.

Best Short Scale Bass

By Mitchell

from Seattle, Washington

Comments about Gretsch Guitars G2202 Electromatic Junior Jet Bass Guitar:

So, I'm a guitarist who was looking for a nice bass at a reasonable price. I don't have small hands or have trouble switching to a full size bass, but I think short scales are unique and fairly rare...I would've bought a Fender Mustang bass (because they are in my opinion, they are THE VERY BEST short scale bass), but I couldn't afford it at the moment. So after trying various (cheaper) shorter scale basses (Epiphone, Hofner, Squier) I found this beauty. It plays smoothly, sound is solid, great finish, and has great/expensive feeling tuners. It plays/sounds a million times better than any of the others I tested. Its rqually good for all styles of music. If you are into vintage look/sound (like I am), this is a great choice. It plays like its already been broken in, and although it has one really hot humbucker, you can still get amazing vintage tones just by tweaking the knobs. And not only is this a guitar that looks and plays amazingly now, but its only going to look/play even more amizingly with age. Even if I ever get a Mustang, this bass is sure to be in my hands just as much. Its one of the best you can get. You won't be dissapointed.

Comments about Gretsch Guitars G2202 Electromatic Junior Jet Bass Guitar:

I'm very happy with mine, had it for a couple of years now, build quality is very good for the price range. Simple controls and a good tone range. BTW - Hugh, no short scale bass is going to be good for pop/slap technique, not enough string tension...

Very Interesting

By TJ

from Simi Valley, CA

Comments about Gretsch Guitars G2202 Electromatic Junior Jet Bass Guitar:

Found this at my local Guitar Center store and was intrigued by the smaller size and short scale. Played through a few different amps and was quite impressed. I got a fair range of sounds - some better than others better depending on the amp I used. Might have a little trouble playing slap/pop style, but that's not my thing. I'm keeping this one in mind and may go back and get it.

Good bass

By Crazy Bass Man

from Raleigh,NC

Comments about Gretsch Guitars G2202 Electromatic Junior Jet Bass Guitar:

I've been playing the bass guitar for quite a while now, and brought this as a replacement for my damaged '64 jazz relic. I was blown away by the incredible playability and strong tone of the bass when playing out of an acoustic B200 amp, and it's sleek look with the ebony burst finish. Overall it has a classic Gretsch tone and is a great bass for the price, I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a good solid starter or replacement bass.
