For the price, the Gretch G2202 Electromatic Junior Jet is an amazing bass. First the down-side... Well, it has a few construction issues, like slightly unevan gaps around the neck joint. I don't know if that means it will have some long-term problems, but I've had this bass for about a year, and it's doing quite well. The sound, for a one-pickup, shortscale bass, it really impressive. That one pickup delivers a serious punch and, with the tone rolled all the way up, it can even get a convincing "My Generation" twang. Rolled back, it can sound very warm and jazzy. Like all shortscale basses, the E-string can be a bit muddy with the tone all the way back, but that has more to do with the nature of short instruments and slack strings than with the design of this instrument. The finish is good -- great in some respects -- though some of the frets were a bit rough at the ends. And it looks good. I really can't think of anything else in its pricepoint that comes close in sound. The Fender Mustang Bass maybe -- but for more than twice the price.

I bought this bass at my local GC along with a acoustic 260 mini half stack, when i got home everything was going great i was loving the look and feel of this bass and then all of a sudden i went to raise the pick up i turned the screwdriver 1 millimeter and the pickup fell into the guitar i took a look at the pickup and the hole on the bottom of the pick up where the spring and screw go was totally stripped i was disappointed by the cheapness of this especially because gretsch is a pretty respectable brand anyway i traded this bass in for a squier full size jazz bass how ever i would recommend getting this bass its has a great look and feel just dont mess around with the pickup!

Comments about Gretsch Guitars G2202 Electromatic Junior Jet Bass Guitar:

Have been in music for about 35 years and this was a great purchase for my sons Christmas present. The playability and tone is very good. The intonation is spot on right out of the box. I highly recomend this guitar to anyone starting out or even to play with in a band on a regular basis.

GREAT BASS

Comments about Gretsch Guitars G2202 Electromatic Junior Jet Bass Guitar:

I went to my local guitar center to look for this bass and they didn't have it. So i ordered it. A few days later it came in and i took it home. I plugged it in and i didn't care for it, but the more i played it the more i liked it. I have a hofner bass so I was just used to a certain sound. I grew to love this bass and have used it to play a many gigs. Great bass, great price.

Best bass for any player

Comments about Gretsch Guitars G2202 Electromatic Junior Jet Bass Guitar:

I got this bass 3 years ago when i was strapped for cash. i traded in my ibanez. and picked this baby up, it had the best action in the whole store! i plugged it into an ampeg and it was on 3. the tv jones pickup in this bass its ridiculous. its louder than any active bass i have played or seen. its very fast, and after i bought it i noticed it was 3/4ths scail, but i kept it and have been playing it ever sense. i now own a ESP D-6 and this bass sounds way better. only problem. the tone wood chosen sounds like complete mud. and you cant go to far out side the basses string gauge range or the strings wont fir in the saddles or tuning holes.

A keeper

By Jimmy D

Comments about Gretsch Guitars G2202 Electromatic Junior Jet Bass Guitar:

I am primarily a guitarist, however I started out playing a short scale bass. I have had a couple of long scale basses but found them to be uncomfortable & hard for me to play. This bass is made well, easy to play & sounds great. Very easy for me to make the transition back to bass. I put flat wound strings on it & set it up to my liking. Classic looks, great finish, light weight, comfortable, great price. It's a keeper.

OMG! WHAT A BASS! itsa so nice! HAD to have it

By tad sharpe

Comments about Gretsch Guitars G2202 Electromatic Junior Jet Bass Guitar:

this is a nice bass, especially for the price. I have spent two thousand on a bass, and it does not sound anything as nice as this LIGHT easy to play little bass with the big big sound. its got a nice voice, good mids and the highs are there but not toooo there, the bass sound is good and thick. I sat in the store and played it thru a mesa boobie walkabout for an hour, it sounded great there and at home with my fender bassman 60 it sounds sharp and really deeeep. Good action for poppin' and slapping and all that....

I couldn't resist it ...

By Wit

Comments about Gretsch Guitars G2202 Electromatic Junior Jet Bass Guitar:

I just bought this bass today. I'm a guitarist but have been thinking of experimenting with bass playing for awhile now. As a newbie there is not much I can add for expertise on bass guitar fine points that haven't been covered by other reviews so far. I will say though this bass fits well in my hands and is very light so no mean strain on the shoulders even though I did buy a thick, well padded LM strap too for it. The one thing about this Gretsch is that the color is more of a slight greenish than true ebony burst. Still unless you're really, really picky about such things that's not even a minor detail. I'm looking forward to having lots of fun experimenting with new sounds on my Gretsch. For $250 it's a hella ridiculously easy price to pay for an awesome bass - go get one and check it out!

Best Short Scale Bass

By Mitchell

from Seattle, Washington

Comments about Gretsch Guitars G2202 Electromatic Junior Jet Bass Guitar:

So, I'm a guitarist who was looking for a nice bass at a reasonable price. I don't have small hands or have trouble switching to a full size bass, but I think short scales are unique and fairly rare...I would've bought a Fender Mustang bass (because they are in my opinion, they are THE VERY BEST short scale bass), but I couldn't afford it at the moment. So after trying various (cheaper) shorter scale basses (Epiphone, Hofner, Squier) I found this beauty. It plays smoothly, sound is solid, great finish, and has great/expensive feeling tuners. It plays/sounds a million times better than any of the others I tested. Its rqually good for all styles of music. If you are into vintage look/sound (like I am), this is a great choice. It plays like its already been broken in, and although it has one really hot humbucker, you can still get amazing vintage tones just by tweaking the knobs. And not only is this a guitar that looks and plays amazingly now, but its only going to look/play even more amizingly with age. Even if I ever get a Mustang, this bass is sure to be in my hands just as much. Its one of the best you can get. You won't be dissapointed.

Fun little axe

By Jim Vaughn

from Reno, Nevada

Comments about Gretsch Guitars G2202 Electromatic Junior Jet Bass Guitar:

I'm very happy with mine, had it for a couple of years now, build quality is very good for the price range. Simple controls and a good tone range. BTW - Hugh, no short scale bass is going to be good for pop/slap technique, not enough string tension...
