This guitar has it all. I wanted a Jet 16 yearsago, but didn't get around to it until this modeland it was worth the wait. The styling is retrobut classic like Jane Mansfield. I own a coupleof Les Pauls and compared it to them for toneand feel. It performs more than admirableagainst these. The clean sound is easily aspristine as my custom with EMG 85 & 81 and themid warmth is smooth as my burstbuckers. Eventhrough a Marshall, it holds up well with thevolume cranked. The neck feels great and it iswell-balanced. I want a gold one to match mysilver one!

I had my eyes on this guitar for a couple years. I loved the way it looked and I heard that it had a great tone. So when I finally bought this thing, let's just say I was let down. From a distance this thing is beautiful, but the minute I got up close I could start to notice flaws. There were glue marks all over the place, the knobs were falling off, it just seemed like it was slopped together. On top of that, there was some pretty bad fret buzz in a couple places. As much as I wanted to love this thing, I had to send it back. Sure the tone is great and it's beautiful from across the room, but at the end of the day I want a quality instrument. Save yourself the headache and get a les paul like everybody else. Atleast you know you'll be getting a guitar that has been put together properly.

Comments about Gretsch Guitars Electromatic Pro Jet Electric Guitar:

Add my name to the list of people who think that the Pro Jet is one of Gretsch's ideas ever. Yes, it's made in China. Get over that - almost everything is, and the quality of their products is better than it's ever been. I have this model in black, with the Gretsch mini-humbuckers. Some Gretsch fanatics hate those pickups, since they do not sound exactly like Filtertrons. Of course they don't; they're not Filtertrons. But they have a tone that's 100% Gretsch and they are well balanced across the EQ spectrum. They have tons of character and through my Vox AC15 they sound very nice. The fit and finish of this instrument is near perfect, and the playability is very nice. I've owned three Gibson Les Pauls in the past (the guitar that this Pro Jet is apparently patterned after, sort of...) and the playability is at least as good as two of these, and better than the third one. And the tone - I've found even the best standard-sized humbuckers to be a bit generic sounding to my ears. Not bad, just generic. These mini-humbuckers have character that normal humbuckers do not. Think of it as being somewhere between a humbucker and a telecaster single-coil. Those are the pros. The cons: I'm having trouble keeping it in tune while using the Bigsby-licensed tremolo. I have not tried different brands of strings, so that may fix it. The poly finish seems very thin and almost brittle. The jack plate is plastic - not a problem, but it should be noted. Also, the strap buttons, which are cool and unique, are not trustworthy. I put a leather strap on it and it fell off in 5 minutes. I caught the guitar, but my next step was to install Schaller strap locks. Everything else about this guitar is absolutely awesome especially for the low price. The best part is that nobody will know you're not playing a two grand instrument. It's that cool.

    Chinese... you sure?

    By Richard Rigby

Comments about Gretsch Guitars Electromatic Pro Jet Electric Guitar:

I've had this guitar for about 6 months now and it is just amazing. I am a big fan of the Gretsch Electromatic series. I'm a poor 15 year old that loves to play. haha. and i wanted an axe straight out of the 60's considering i play a lot of older rock and this is by far the best cheap chinese guitar ever. its got classic gretsch sound, very elegant and simplistic, and it can take a beating. I've done shows where it down poored, had this thing drop to the ground because of a bad strap a few times and everthing is great. tuning, sound, finish, playability is just amazing. thanks Gretsch.

Good deal but lacking in tone

    By John-bXqkr

Comments about Gretsch Guitars Electromatic Pro Jet Electric Guitar:

This is a great guitar for the money, but if you are really searching for "that great Gretsch sound," you probably won't find it here. The guitar sounds good, but simply not great. The low end and the neck pickup are muddy and lack Gretsch's signature clarity. Even after a lot of careful amp and pedal adjustments, the tone is still lacking. The guitar sounds good enough for an entry level guitar, but I think those more serious about their tone (and those looking for that Gretsch bite and string texture sound) will be disappointed. This guitar may the look the part of an affordable Duo Jet or Power Jet, but the sound isn't there. As some internet research will show, a lot people have had similar problems and many have replaced the pickups. The slots for the pickups are not the most standard and while there are good pickups to be put, some can take work and may require a professional installation.Other than the pickups, this is a great guitar. The finish and curved top give the guitar a great look (especially in black) and the neck and action make the guitar very playable. The construction is good, although the input jack comes loose (also apparently a common problem) and the knobs are not perfectly flush with the body. Overall, I would say this is a good guitar at a good price, but it doesn't really embody what makes Gretsch guitars great: the tone.

    Amazing!

Comments about Gretsch Guitars Electromatic Pro Jet Electric Guitar:

For the past few years i have been playing an Ibanez Art100 that i got for $250. I got my Pro jet for a birthday present a few months ago and i am very pleased. the amazing thing about it is that it is made in china, which is a turn off to me(do to the fact that my falling apart ibanez is made in china)but it is holding up like an american gretsch would. its got great tone, very simple but stunning looks, and handles extremely well. if you have been playing for a few years step up and by this rig. you wont be dissapointed.

Comments about Gretsch Guitars Electromatic Pro Jet Electric Guitar:

Incredibly lightweight for its size...beautiful finish (got the black one)...all the electronics work nicely right out of the box (no loose switches or wobbly knobs)...what a great guitar. Loved it the first time I played it in the store and it sounds even better cranked up at home. Makes a great complement to my LP. Other than needing new strings, this baby screams AWESOME!

Just shut up and try it!

Comments about Gretsch Guitars Electromatic Pro Jet Electric Guitar:

I am sick to death of people saying "this is a Chinese Gretsch... It's not a Les Paul... It's not American made" who cares? If you want to be the guy who has to have a 7000.00 piece and you don't play guitar as your main source of cash flow then you're and idiot. I have 2 Gibby's a few "American Made" Ovations and 1 American Fender and I would take the Pepsi challenge any day of the week with the Gretsch PJ. Yeah the mini-hum aren't the best in the world, but it's an inexpensive guitar and a great platform for modding it out. If you want to do the math.. 500.00 guitar, upgrade the pups, bridge and tuners... another 450.00.. thats 1000.00 TOTAL with tax and shipping charges... still under the cost of a mid range Gibson and it will kick the Gibbys butt. I've gigged it and used it for recording and it doesn't let me down. Look, don't listen to me, try the guitar. Out of the box it plays alright, do some minor adjustments, and a string change and the next thing you'll feel is pure love for it. A great guitar for beginners to professionals. If you're one of those guys hung up on American made guitars and have to have the best name brand stuff then you're probably going to look elsewhere while still trying to learn to play an open G.

Love my Black Gretsch Pro jet!

    By GWROBERTS

    from Rives, TN

Comments about Gretsch Guitars Electromatic Pro Jet Electric Guitar:

I sing and play guitar in two rural churches and one nursing home. I have been playing acoustics until recently, but this Gretsch has changed all that. This is the only guitar I practice with now and starting last Sunday the main one I will play at church. For the price, you are getting far more than you pay for. The black Pro Jet is very classy looking. I especially like the chrome tailpiece. Some have complain about the tuners, but to me these hold their pitch better than have come on other electrics I've own. Playability is great; this is the most playable guitar I have ever owned; acoustic or electric. The pickups and the bridge had to be adjusted a little which came as no surprise. The pickups were muddy as the Mississippi at first, but are actually getting better over time as the guitar gets broken in more. May replace them in the future, but I will wait a year to see how they are then.I've played this through two amps; a Roland Cube Street and a Fender Superchamp XD. It sounds good through the Roland but great through the Fender. I believe that a really good Fender amp would bring a lot out of this guitar.Only downside: hard to find a good affordable case for it and the Gretsch case sold here is way too expensive.God Bless.

    Best Deal Ever

    By kbcarroll

    from Nashville, TN

Comments about Gretsch Guitars Electromatic Pro Jet Electric Guitar:

I play mostly blues with some classic rock thrown in. This guitar is extremely versatile. I'm told it sounds like a mix between a humbucker guitar and a fender/single coil--which is what I was looking for.I had been wanting a Gretsch jet since I saw David Gilmour playing one on a live DVD. When I discovered I could get a "cheap chinese model" that looked very similar to his vintage duo jet, I got one. I was expecting a borderline junk guitar that I'd have to slowly upgrade over time. That was not the case. For the price, this is the best playing, best looking, and best sounding guitar I've ever come across. Don't even tune it with the factory-installed strings. Replace them immediately. Mine didn't even need a setup (extremely rare). I get more complements on this guitar than my 72' thinline tele.My only complaint is the pickups are a tad bit lifeless. Tuners are a bit unstable, but nothing serious. But still, for the money, wow! Best money you can spend on a new guitar.

    Gretsch Pro Jet (black)

    By Glenn in Chillicothe, MO

    from Chillicothe, MO 64601

Comments about Gretsch Guitars Electromatic Pro Jet Electric Guitar:

I was very skeptic at my new MIC Gretsch G5235 hardtail. I really looked it over closely and found that this model is not too bad at all. For the money, it is quite a find. It set up perfect and plays like a dream. Pickups are not all that bad either. With a certain amount of care this gem will last a person a long time. I enjoy the med/jumbo frets over the MIJ narrow (vintage)frets. Also like the bound body, neck and headstock. Everything is near perfect so I'm happy with my purchase.
