Gretsch Guitars Root Series G9230 Bobtail Square Neck Acoustic-Electric Resonator (H80551)
Availability:

Traditional mahogany design with modern construction and Fishman electronics perfect for bluegrass.

The Gretsch G9230 Bobtail Acoustic-Electric Resonator marks the return of resonators to the Gretsch family. It has the square neck that's preferable for bluegrass. A round-neck version, which is better for blues-based music, is also available (please see model G9220, our sku# H80542). The G9230 features a beautifully-bound mahogany body with traditional-style F holes. The heart of this richly resounding guitar is the Gretsch Ampli-Sonic resonator cone, hand-spun in Eastern Europe from nearly 99-percent pure aluminum for fantastic volume and sonic projection. The onboard Fishman Nashville pickup features a split saddle piezo-ceramic pickup designed specifically for spider-style bridges and offers consistent, accurate sound reproduction for every performance.

Gretsch is proud to take players on a musical journey through nearly a century of great Gretsch history by introducing its Roots Collection of acoustic instruments. This exciting family of banjos, mandolins, resonator guitars, ukuleles and Rancher acoustic guitars feature classically authentic Gretsch designs that transport players to a bygone era well before the company made its acclaimed 1950s entry into the electric guitar world.

Case sold separately.

  • I'm pleased!

As reviewed by Lloyd OBrien Jr. on 3/1/2013

I've played dobro for 20 years. (I also play pedal steel guitar). I've owned two Regal "Dobro" guitars. The one I'm playing now I've played for nearly that whole time because of its high quality. I paid $800 for it in the early 90's. When considering the Gretsch I was concerned that I the tone quality would not be equal to the Regal and I would be disappointed. I didn't know any place to go to try one out, so I just took the chance, based on the appearance of the guitar. It's beautiful, and I love the "F" holes instead of the round screened wholes in the majority of "dobro" guitars. I am now so glad that I bought it! The richness of the tone and the acoustic volume really out does my Regal. The amplified sound is fine, though it takes on a slight bit more of a "lap steel" tone. The only thing I really would prefer to be different is the finish: I would prefer a glossy finish to the satin finish, but that is entirely personal preference. I think this guitar can play with the best of them; and for the price I don't believe it can be beat. I've played it now for two weeks, and after initial string stretch in, it has held its tuning really well.
