Gretsch Guitars G5620T Electromatic Center Block Semi-Hollow Electric Guitar (J02642)
Availability:

Classic looks, upgraded electronics and feedback-fighting construction.

The single-cutaway G5620T-CB Electromatic Center-Block Electric Guitar features "That Great Gretsch Sound" with the "center-block advantage." The interior solid spruce center block running the length of the guitar's 1-¾"-deep thinline-style body makes for a lively “high gain-friendly” tone and delivers greater control over the kind of feedback players want.

The new dual-coil Super HiLo’Tron neck pickup is voiced to produce a clean, high-end sparkle with robust low-end, low-noise performance. Together with the "Black Top" Filter’Tron bridge pickup, it’s a potent tonal combination.

Other premium features include five-ply maple body construction with a bound arched top and back, bound "cat's eye" sound holes and a bound maple neck. The G5620T-CB also has a 12.5"-radius rosewood fingerboard with 22 medium jumbo frets and Neo-Classic "thumbnail" inlays, three-way pickup switching, single-ply black pickguard with Gretsch logo, five "G-arrow" control knobs (volume for each pickup, tone for each pickup, master volume), anchored Adjusto-Matic bridge and flat-handle Bigsby-licensed B70 vibrato, Grover tuners and knurled strap retainer knobs. Case sold separately.

I happened to own an expensive purple hot rod 6120 and it is nice. This guitar can compete with it. The bridge pickup is hot. This is a nice looking and playing guitar. I happen to have the black model and tend to prefer the color. Harrison played a black Gretsch. Had a Gretsch 5120. This blows it out of the water and competes with the 6120 in my opinion. The tones on the neck pickup to not quite match the 6120 but My style uses the bridge pickup more promiminent. I like this ax.

  • Such a sweet sound...

As reviewed by Arman Birang on 4/16/2014

This a hell of a guitar for the money. Immediately, I noticed the unamplified sound... which to someone not used to playing a semi-hollow, seemed a little weird - a little "dead" sounding. I don't know, BUT my opinion immediately changed when I plugged the sucker in. HOLY HELL. Beautiful sound through the pickups... The bridge one has a good bite to it. The middle position is a perfect mix and the rhythm pickup has a good scooped sound to it with nice round lows and a little presence sparkle. THE FEEDBACK is very controllable!!! It has an amazing, almost soothing feedback sound. All in all, I LOVE this guitar. Really good for the price. The only reason I give it 4 stars is that it's incredibly difficult to access any frets higher than about 17... you can learn to work around it though. Factory setup could be a little better, but what do you expect, it's a factory. Regardless, great guitar.

  • Great Choice!

As reviewed by Frank on 7/27/2014

I am a relatively novice guitar player even though I have been playing for several years. I have three acoustic guitars and an acoustic modeling guitar. I wanted to have a very good electric guitar and was influenced by Chet Atkins and Les Paul so it was between Gretsch & Gibson for my choices. I looked at both ends of the price spectrum and listened to all guitars via YouTube. I loved the sounds of the Gretsch line which is now owned by Fender and I was off to Guitar Center to listen to them in real time. I also looked at Strats and Telecasters but thought that could be a purchase down the road! Three guitars made my finals: a $3,100 Chet Atkin's 6120 Country Club (green), a $680 G5120 Electromatic hollow-body (orange), and a $900 G5620T Electromatic Center Block semi-hollowbody (green) all played through a Roland AC-60 Chorus Combo amp as this is the one I have at home. Playing through the amp I have or wish to buy was another key factor. I also hooked up virtual amps through my IPad using GarageBand to hear nuances in each guitar but the "live" amp differentiated the sound better. I selected the single-cutaway G5620T-CB Electromatic Center-Block Electric Guitar. I agreed that this guitar still maintained "That Great Gretsch Sound" and experienced less feedback with the "center-block advantage" which I found the G5120 to have more of. The interior solid spruce center block running the length of the guitar's 1-?"-deep thinline-style body makes the guitar slightly heavier but did deliver a lively ?high gain-friendly? tone and greater control over feedback. The Country Club was excellent as well but was eliminated mostly on price as the sound was just as good but not substantially better to my ear. The biggest factor in my final decision was the new dual-coil Super HiLo?Tron neck pickup together with the "Black Top" Filter?Tron bridge pickup. As the ad states "It?s a potent tonal combination". I played in all positions; neck, bridge and combined. The ability to choose these three options gave the G5620T-CB the winning vote! I really liked the ability to switch between three sounds. The color choice was secondary but still important to me; not that I'm going on stage. I was recently down in Nashville and saw Ray Benson ("Asleep At The Wheel" band) play an orange Gretsch hollowbody. It looked awesome and thought orange was the way to go. Once I saw the Georgia Green I loved the rich way it looked and thought this is one sharp looking Guitar! It's only been thirty days but I am extremely happy with my choice and have played it everyday!
