  • What happened to Q.C.?

As reviewed by TIM COOK on 2/19/2013

The pics of this guitar do not do it justice. A beautiful instrument, with the black and silver and off-white binding. Pups are a huge improvement over the mini-humbuckers. That's the good.....Now the bad: 3 out of 4 pots were crooked and loose. The pickguard was loose and did not fit correctly over the neck pickup ring. This thing had a noise problem, that was indicative of a grounding issue. Unable to fix it. I even ran my amp through a Furman noise conditioner-no luck. If you have the cash, buy the Duo-Jet....if not, you better try a few of these on before you buy.

  • Great guitar for the money

As reviewed by Jim Cacy on 10/9/2013

Keep in mind that this rating is in comparison with other budget guitars. I'm no aficionado of guitars, but I've owned several from a vintage '63 Stratocaster to Chinese and Mexican made Yamahas and Fenders. This guitar is made in China, but I could only find one thing to dislike. Its black finish is flawless and beautiful, and the tone ranges from warm to bell-like without distortion and can rival my MIM Telecaster with distortion added. My only concern when I first got it was an occasional faint crackling, which didn't seem to come from the pots or pups or jack. This was puzzling until I read on a Gretsch forum that this guitar's pick guard can accumulate static and create this crackling. Bingo. OK. It isn't a two to five thousand dollar American made guitar, but for the money this little ax pleases me completely.

  • Love the look - hate the sound

As reviewed by Kyle Applegate on 2/8/2013

I got this guitar in gold - it looked awesome. However, the pots in this are garbage. The tone knob didn't even work, and turning the volume knobs often made this horrible cracking noise. It was either return it or replace the pots, so I returned it. Guitar Center's customer service was awesome though. Very helpful, and I have no qualms about buying another guitar from them.
