NEW REVIEW - GREAT GUITAR!!!

I don't even have this guitar yet and I already love it! I was with my buddy at Guitar Center and we spent 6 hours there trying out every guitar in the store. When I picked up the 5120 I couldn't stop playing it! It feels great around the neck and it's not real heavy like a Les Paul. It was my favorite in the store by far and I can't wait to get it. If anyone is looking to get a great new guitar I'd highly recommend the grestch. It's a great price and you won't be dissapointed.

Best Hollow Body Period

Just got the G5120! If you're wanting a hollow-body don't waste your money on an Ibanez or Epiphone: invest wisely..Buy a Gretsch! This my second Gretsch and I can tell you this is the most versatile guitar I own (and I have several). I can play all styles with it and it delivers. The wood craftmanship is impeccable. The wiring is tight, unlike the Epiphones I tried. The neck is comfortable and not chunky, great for a guy with short fingers. Overall a homerun. The only two things I don't like about Electromatics are this: 1. No case. C'mon you make a great guitar> So, how about a case too? and 2. How about some good tuners? My top end Gretsch guitars have great tuners, so I'm sure you guys can put forth the best foot even on this less-expensive line of guitars with some good Grover or Sperzel tuners and still sell it for less than a grand. But overall, you get way more guitar for the price. No one else can come close to Gretsch for an electric guitar, especially a hollow body. So...go buy one already.

Not just for rockabilly!

Had my local Guitar Center order me a G5120 in Western Orange from another store. I had played the ebony model but wanted the traditional Gretsch vintage color. When mine arrived it did not disappoint. The whiz tech set it up and I plugged it in... pure vintage sparkle. As bright as my Custom Shop Tele but crunches up nicely and great, deep jazz and blues tones too. Rockabilly twang and spank? Goes without saying! Very little difference in quality from the Brian Setzer model. Sunds fantastic through by tweed Fender Deluxe and great with modelin effects thru my solid state amps as well. My first Bigsby- used to Fender trems- but it works like a champ! 2 minor critques- the black plastic spacers under the chrome pickup rings look cheap, and I'd prefer an opaque pick guard (vs. the clear plexi one though I know many of the expensive Gretsches have clear pickguards). I can't put this rig down- my Strat and Tele are jealous!

Wow! What a guitar!

I just bought the 5120 last night. Let me say it again, "Wow! What a guitar!". The 5120 sounds great plugged or unplugged. It sounds great right off the shelf. I bought new strings assuming I'd have to change those but the ones on it are nice and twangy. The only thing I would change is the pickguard, I don't like the clear pickguard. I give it 5 stars and 2 thumbs up!

Chet Atkins would be proud.......

Just because I don't own it yet, doesn't mean I can't give some good advice. So let me just tell you why i want to buy it....... I was playing some epiphone les pauls in guitar center, and this gretsch was idling nearby on the rack, so i said "what the hell, i'll try it out." My first impression was that it was too tennesee-esque for my taste. Orange, big body, not my thing. I did like the f-holes, however, and the wood was shiny and comfortable in my grip. I plugged into a vox valvetronix, which I also own, and tried it out. Great electric clean sound. I played "layla" with the reverb. Then I kicked into distortion for "Whole Lotta Love." What sold me was it's unplugged sound. So loud and rich. For a long time, i'd been looking for a guitar that had electrical prowess, but rich acoustics. Thanks Gretsch!!!!!!! I'm buying it this week.
