  • Gretsch G2220 Electromatic Jet Jr. Short-Scale Bass

As reviewed by Doug Grant on 9/26/2013

I play bass in my church?s contemporary choir, which consists of singers, a pianist, several acoustic guitar players, and a drummer. I had been playing a full-scale electro-acoustic bass, which had many strong points, but it took up a lot of space and required me to concentrate a lot on my fretting hand, which made it more difficult for me to sing while playing. I purchased the short-scale Gretsch G2220, sight unseen, in hopes it would alleviate some of these issues. I?m glad to say that I am very happy with the instrument; its look, sound, and feel are very suitable for my situation. It is comfortable to hold, easy to play, has an ear-pleasing tone, and creates plenty of volume when played through the church?s PA system. Its vintage styling (I got the tobacco sunburst version) is also a plus; a more rock-oriented instrument would look out of place in my setting. Finally, it did not put too big a dent in my bank account. The only downside, if it can be called that, is that there is no ready-made hardshell case available for it. The folks at Guitar Center helped me select a plush-lined gig bag which is working out fine for now. I have seen it said on the Internet that a Les Paul guitar case will fit it, but I haven?t checked that out. Regardless, I would give the Getsch G2220 five out of five stars, because it has given me exactly what I wanted without costing me an arm and a leg.

  • Expected Gretsch Quality

As reviewed by Chris Peters on 3/5/2012

This is the second Junior Jet II series guitar I've bought in the last 4 months. I have been to our local GC store many times and it amazes me how many twisted necks I look down (on other brands). When I got both of these in the mail (because our local store doesn't stock these less expensive model Gretsch guitars) everything is perfect. Neck flat, packaged well, etc. Both Junior Jets stay in tune very well. This guitar is well worth the money. Especially if you get it with a coupon! Look no further than here if you're shopping for an inexpensive bass.

  • What a Boom!

As reviewed by Rebecca on 3/23/2015

I have shoulder trouble and needed a bass with a shorter neck and when I saw this one I ordered right away. Boy am I glad I did! Arrived on timely basis and packaged very well. Barely needed any tuning. Sounded great on my small amp when I first plugged it in. I was a little unhappy with the twang it had so I ordered tape wound strings. Fantastic sound! Played it in church Sunday and what a boom. Very well worth the price and then some. I highly recommend it to anyone!
