  • fun to play

As reviewed by Showsova on 10/18/2006

I purchased my pro jet at the beginning of summer. I tried out a lot of electric guitars and was planning on spending a lot more money. I honestly had no interest in the Gretsch brand until this beauty caught my eye. I tried it out and instantly fell in love. The guitar plays great-good action (which I was able to lower to make it great). Great looks-I got the black although the sparkle finishes are fun but a little too flashy for me. Great tones, this guitar is a telecaster and a Les Paul and everything in between (for under $500). The skinny: I have short fingers and a super wide neck is tough for me to play-this guitar feels and plays like it was made for me. If you find this is a problem for you, this is your guitar. That being said, if you have long fingers this guitar may cramp your style. The one thing I must add-buy the hardshell case for this guitar-it is more money but it is the only case that will hold it because of the bigsby. It will not go into a Les paul case (although it seems like it will)-just get it and thank me later.

  • Fantastic Guitar

As reviewed by Clay on 3/16/2010

I have quite a few guitars (14 at last count), ranging from Strats and Teles, to Les Pauls, Schecters, and a Paul Reed Smith. I got this guitar because I was looking for something "different", as far as tone. It delivers, and then some. Original setup was a little off, and tweaking the intonation takes some getting used to, but the tone was fantastic from the start. After a good setup and decent strings, it was absolutely unbelievable. This guitar is very versatile, and offers a nice tonal range somewhere between the Fender "pop" and the Gibson "meow". The pickups are not extremely powerful, but pack enough punch to handle a variety of styles. I would not recommend it for metal players, but blues, jazz, rock, punk, and even country are all in there. And, yes, restringing with the Bigsby is a pain, but it's worth the trouble to have that vintage warbling tremolo at your disposal. You CANNOT beat this guitar for the money.

  • I named her Betty!!!

As reviewed by J.P. on 6/20/2009

As i big fan of rockabilly, I finally decided to get a Gretsch. This was my first choice since I am used to solid bodies for the most part. First off, this guitar looks goods and solid. Very clean and neat. The problem is, it is heavy, not uncomfortable, but heavy. Like other reviews you will want to change the strings if you want these "mini tuners" to do their job, and yes the bigsby makes restringing a pain, but i got used it. My only real issue i have had with this beauty is the pickups are very weak on any clean channel I have tried, out of 4 amps, all different brands. Luckily, I rarely use clean. I love this guitar and play it daily. Any Gretsch fans or anyone who wants a great blues sound should give it a try if they can.
