  • Gretsch electromatic lap steel guitar

As reviewed by randy paredes on 12/3/2008

Iv'e owned this guitar for about 3 months now, and havn't stopped playing it yet.The guitar is very beautiful for starters. The single coil pickup really puts out some nice tones, both clean sounds and distorted sounds really sound good.As with any single coil you will get some buzz on some distorted sounds, but nothing real bad.On clean sounds the pickup is very noiseless. The tuners are also pretty good, with a smooth feel, and the guitar stays in tune just fine. You can play country, blues, hawain, and some rock on this and it does a pretty good job at all of them. All and all I'm very satisfied with this guitar., and would buy it again! I played regular 6 string electric for over 35 yrs, and this is my first lap steel, and it's really been fun learning this instrument. It's better than a "entry level " instrument by far.

  • Lap Steel reveiw

As reviewed by Gary Salin on 3/12/2010

The Gretsch lap steel is a big winner in my mind. I am amazed at the great tone, quality construction(allthough not made in the USA) And ease of playing, people complaining of problems with intonation should pay attention to where they are placing the steel. As a new steel player I concidered a acoustic lap steel(Dobro), But I am very happy with my decision, as the Lap Steel has many advantages, Like the ability to practice with headphones and get different tones, I have owned many guitars in my life, and this Gretsch lap steel is as good or better than any I've owned (Gibson,Fender)

I've used this lap steel guitar on a couple of occasions. To start out with, this thing is visually stunning. As you can see by the pictures, Gretsch didn't skimp out of the looks even though it's one of the cheaper instruments they sell. Don't let that fool you though, this is reliable and it's tone sounds great. The single coil pickup sounds very good. Overall, I'd reccomend this for somebody would wanted to learn to play lap steel and even to someone who was more advanced.
