I was upgrading to a new set last christmas and i noticed that most maple drums by more sought after manufacturers cost alot more. One day I can across a Gretsch Renown Maple and was blown away by the sound. I did not notice much difference at all with the higher end maple kits on the market, its almost a secret gem. I also bought a gibraltar hardware pack, and they have the most sturdy hardware you could ever buy. I got mine in autumn burst and it is beautiful. The toms sing, the bass iis incredibly good and I bought a different snare but the snare which comes with it is very good. I suggest you buy new heads for it to get the fullness out of these drums. I have been playing on pearl, yamaha, tama and others but this is my favorite. Hope you enjoy purchasing it as much as I did.
I bought the Renown Maple kit about 6 months ago! I have played Yamaha and DW top of the line kits and my kit sounds better than those and cost a fraction of the price. Go Gretsch all the way!
This drums sound spectacular! The bass drum is powerful, fat, in-your-face presence. The toms sound like toms are supposed to sound, wiht body, with volume, with the perfect sustain, no more, no less. Your sound engineer is gonna love 'em too. And the price..., unveliebable, I highly recommend them. A great purchase.
The new Gretsch Renown Maple series drums are of the highest quality one can find today. The toms, bass drum and snare all perform to professional standards. I would recommend these drums to anyone thinking about purchase there next kit!
We bought a set of Gretsch Renown Maple drums for a church I play for. The sound was something I expected from an upper end drum set. The toms have great definition and craftsmanship and sheer beauty make this an exceptional value. I would highly recommend them to beginners and pros.
What can I say but WOW!! I wasn't shopping for a new kit but happened to sit behind this one and hit the kick drum. I was blown away. Great attack and a fatness that balances out the rest of the toms. The Amber Burst finish is flawless and the hardware is excellent. The value was great. I can't wait for next rehearsal...
After buying and playing my new Autumn Burst Renown Maple Fusion kit, I've got one question: How did Gretsch finally do what no other major acoustic drum maker seems to be able to do? Namely, produce a pro-quality, 100% maple kit at a price point 50% below everyone else? Not because they scrimped on quality-- the kit's beautifully made and finished, hardware's top-notch and solid as a rock. And the SOUND! Kick's like a cannon shot, toms are warm and resonant. Even the heads (Evans) are first-rate. Look no further for the best value in maple drums: Gretsch owns this price point now.
I have played every high end kit out there and nothing, hear me, NOTHING, sounds like a Gretsch Maple. I borrowed DW's, Taye, Tama's, Yamahas you name it. I kept coming back to the Renown Maple. I purchased the Autumn Burst color and WOW, unreal, flawless finish. I use the Gibraltar rack system and I couldn't be more pleased with the compact set up and look. My sound engineers, stage hands and techs, love these drums. Home run Gretsch!
I went to guitar center to test out an iron cobra that I wanted and it happened to be set up on this kit along with a gibraltar drum rack. I completly forgot about how good the iron cobra was because I was so amazed at the great, pounding sound of the bass drum. Then i played the rest of the kit. it sounded great. I looked at the price tag expecting a $3,000 drum set, but it was half that price! This is definatly my next drum kit
You don't have to replace anything to gig with this set right out of the box except tune them. This has been the very best sounding kit I have ever owned, I have owned every leading brand name of drums, I have 6 sets of drums now of which 2 are the Renown Maple. 2007 and 2006 models. I fell in love with these in the store trying out a snare, money is not an object with me, I picked this set over the DW and Yamaha top of the line kits, there is just something about the feel on top of the great sound and very fun to play.
