This is an awesome drum set. I am the worship director at a church and was looking for a new kit for the band. We had a Pearl kit for over 8 years, which performed decent with E Rings, but it was time for a new kit. My drummer wanted to stick with Pearl but I was tired of looking at that brand. They are good, but i wanted something that looked nice!I walked into my local GC and saw this kit on Sale. I really wanted a DW kit but I did not want to spend $2500, so I took this one instead. I DO NOT REGRET MY DECSION ONE BIT. We had our first service yesterday and IT WAS AWESOME. I even got compliments from a visitor who didn't even know it was a new kit!!! The only thing is, you will have to re-tune the kit. I'm sorry, the Guys/Girls at GC are awesome but they don't take the time to tune kits correctly. Trust me, take it home, watch BOB GATZEN on youtube and tune it yourself. Tune it as low as possible and this bad boy will not dissapoint for the price. It's not the best kit in the world, but it will certainly do the job right. Make sure you put a thin pillow or blanket inside the kick drum but don't muffle the head too much. Also, please don't buy any E rings or muffle pads. This kit sounds good without them.Just tune it as low as possible. Enjoy!!!
I got this set because it's one of the least expensive, quality seven piece sets. I played it in the store and loved the sound, so I picked one up. It sounds really good with single or double-ply heads, although I felt that the single ply heads let it shine a bit more. The really outstanding part of this set is the snare. It has great tone and a pretty large tuning range with a ton of crack. My main qualm with this set, and the reason I would never buy it again is the mounting system for the rack toms. It attaches directly to the tuning rods to minimize shell contact, which seems like a good idea in theory, but is mostly a pain. Every time you want to change the heads, you have to remove the whole mounting system, and the toms are always going out of tune because of the mounting system pulling directly on the rods. It is a really, really terrible system and unless you want to change to a different mounting system, I can't recommend this set to anyone. If you do want to change the mounting system, this is a fantastic set for the price - 5 stars. If not, it's not worth you time and money - 2.5 stars.
I bought this set for my recording studio. We have used them now for one week. They sound amazing. The set comes with Evans heads and I use the efusion rings to control overtones. I do plan to change to Evans EC2 heads soon. I am still experimenting with tom tunings but they are very close now. The fit and finish on this set of drums is beautiful and the hardware looks great too. Everything appears to be very well made and done in a skilled craftsman manner. They are permanently set up and recorded using a D112 on the kick, SM57 on snare, a pair of MD21's on toms and a pair of Shure SM81 condensors on the overheads.
This was going to be a backup/practice set for recording, but after setting it up and starting to practice, I found that compared to mt Mapex Meridian Maple, it has more of the Classic warm deep sound. I tropically play with 2 ply heads from Evens the G2's or Remo coated, but the stock heads were very surprising. I would recommend this to anyone who wants a mid-to high range kit for a great price. When you sit behind this kit, you will notice the Gretsch sound right out of the gate..
So I bought one of these drum set for an unbelievable price to find what I wanted a high-quality sounding drum that is versatile musically speaking, easely tunned and warm-sounding drums. Yes, the drums are pretty high pitch but they also are great-sounding drums and with good tunning you can achive what ever you want. Also the transparent ebony color is unbelievable!! It incredibly beautiful. I didn't click for 5 stars because of details like a buzzing sound in the 12' tom, a cheap-sounding drum heads and a very cheap snare wire. The good news are that all of these can be easely replaced or can apply to warranty. IT IS A GREAT DRUM SET WITH LOTS OF TOMS FOR AN UNBELIEVABLE PRICE
